Having captured some analog video thru the box and the FF software, I imported it into Premeire (6.0) and had trouble getting it to run properly (very jumpy frames, bad audio).
Is the .DIF format compressed?
Is that the only capture format.
When I ran the same footage thru a Sony DVMC-DA2 and captured it as AVI it ran fine with no dropped frames or sound problems.
Having both, I like the Sony better.
I don't believe .dif is compressed. It is similar to .avi but is called .dif to get around file size limits in Windows. Is this your first attempt at capture with FF? If so there could be a myriad of problems that we have all been through. If its not your first, what was different from this and your prior captures? Have you installed any new software that could have upset IRQ settings? Are all your drivers including chipset, audio and video drivers the latest available? To get everything working correctly on my system, which was fairly up to date anyway, I had to delve into the arcane world of updating my ASPI layer. Do you have a separate 7200 RPM drive for capture? Have you closed out ALL background applications when running FF and Premiere? How much RAM do you have? Are you sure your settings are correct? Your post doesn't really give enough specifics for a more specific answer. Once I worked through all these issues I find the DV.now.AV card to work just fine, but it does demand a LOT of tweaking.
I am just getting into looking at this problem. This is on a machine I know little about. It was not set-up or installed by me and I am trying to trouble shoot. I know there are two drives and the one is SCSI and the other is a 7200rpm drive.
This is my first experience with the Fast Forward software and find it cumbersome to use.
Ideally I would like to capture in Premiere right off the Dazzle unit. I am about ready to rip it all out and re-install.
It should not be this hard both the Sony and Canopus units are pure plug and play. PLug them into the Firewire, open Premiere, check settings, record.
Any pointers would be appreicated.
I actually like FF and it seems to have better features than the other front-end programs I have read about. I also can capture directly into Premiere, but I only do that when I have a single short clip or two. I am only doing analog capture right now; I'm not sure if I would feel the same about DV capture. Are you able to capture direct from Premiere? If not your card is probably not set up correctly. You might be better off tearing the whole thing out, uninstalling all unnecessary software, cleaning the registry and starting the installation from scratch. Given the situation you describe, that would probably be quicker than troubleshooting. Just make sure you have all the latest drivers for EVERYTHING before you start reinstalling - audio card, video card, chipset etc.
