The idea is that folk who've got fully working video editing system post here the detailed spec of their systems, so that others who are looking to buy (or having trouble) know what bits of kit work with other bits of kit.

What if you've got a combination that doesn't work?
My DV Raptor's overlay does not work properly with my Creative Riva TNT graphics card. It will overlay at full speed if I wiggle the Raptor Video window. I'm lucky, because I've got a TV monitor to hand, so I can watch footage on that instead, but it would be nice to watch it on the monitor too.

I would say that "configurations to avoid" are just as important - so long as it doesn't degenerate into flaming of kit. I.e. just because items A and B don't work together doesn't mean A or B are "bad", just incompatible.

I agree. The Riva TNT kicks ass, I was most impressed when I saw a demo of it, hence my purchase. This was of course way before my DV Raptor purchase.
Also, if I happen to mention that my device A doesn't work with my device B, and someone else has managed to get them to work, then we've got a really useful hardware reference. Especially if some kind soul were to keep a database of compatible/incompatible hardware. That would be a feature in itself.

OK. Good luck.
I have a Novatech PC that works fine with
parallel port MPG capturers.
I have a Novatech PC that doesn't work with
parallel port MPG capturers.
I don't know what the difference is. I suspect it might be a software driver
for something I maybe installed once, and
which didn't fully de-install.
Or maybe Novatech changed the motherboard they use.
Or maybe the clock speed.
Or a different graphics card.
Or maybe ....
If you say that "Kit A works with kit B" then you're making the unjustifiable assumption that tomorrow's "Kit A" is the same as yesterdays. It won't be - you can put that in the bank.
And they don't bother with version numbers now, except for marketing purposes.
