Can anyone point me to a site or outlet where I can get hold of cables from XLR socket to 3.5mm stereo plug, in various lengths.

To clarify it's required to connect the Sennheiser K6 module to line in on a Sony VX2000.

Thanks for any help.

i buy those from http://www.compositevideo.co.uk

the catalogue has a lot more than the webpages show , BUT , a phone call to the owner will get you the same service , which is fast/friendly/efficient

Hi Phil,
I take it you've tried CKE at the bottom of your road? failing that easy option H. Pretons will get one to you next day.

Thanks for the replies guys, all I was after is a short lead (300mm) and most of the outlets want at least £30.

Perhaps JW can answer this:

1. You advised a while ago how to make up a XLR/XLR from XLR/3.5mm lead. Well I have an XLR/XLR and wondered what connections need to be made if I cut off the XLR plug and fit to a 3.5mm Jack plug (should it be stereo or mono the plug) I understand there will be two cables and the screening, how does this solder to the mini jack connections. If successful I can use the mic hard wired as well as wireless.

If you already have xlr-xlr then you may just want the short all metal xlr to 3.5mm converters.

look in maplin if you don't see them in compositevideo catalogue.
mine is at work , will look tomorrow morning for part nos

Hi There,

Yes Gary is correct, Maplins sell an xlr/3.5 adapter, I saw one in their Dublin store yesterday.

Hi Phil,

I bought one of these from a specialist audio supplier 5 minutes from my house. They will make them to order and whatever length you require.

If I remember correctly I think about £8 should cover what you want.

I may even have one you can have. I had one for my XM1 which I no longer require. I'll have a look later and let you know.

i'm not too bad a solderer but from my experience, phono's and Mini-jacks are a pain in the *rse.

I tend to buy leads that are half what i want from Maplin (like a 3.5mm J to 2 x Phono) then I cut them in half and add the XLR or whatever. You can get two leads out of one if you're lucky and the strain releif on the made up 3,5mm is often far better than you can achieve at home.

Birty Boy,

It would be best to get a right angle XLR to fit onto the K6 - a straight one sticks out a long way and is very vulnerable! Neutrik do these - available from Composite Video (as is everything else you need).

Provided you keep the lead short you will have no problems with hum pick up etc. I am using a K6/ME67 with my Canon XM1 using a 15cm home made lead. I have used 2 signal + screen for the lead. The problem, of course, is that XLR is balanced and 3.5mm jacks are not.

You need an XLR-3F and a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack and a length of double screened audio cable.
Wire:

XLR pin 1 to mini-jack sleeve
XLR pin 2 to mini-jack tip and ring
XLR pin 3 to mini-jack sleeve (or to XLR pin 1).

I have used a stereo jack so that I get audio on both channels. There are impedance implications here, but I cannot detect any difference in performance when I use a lead with a stereo jack rather than a mono jack. With a mono jack, you can duplicate the channel in Premeiere.
