We've recently bought three laptops with WinDVD 8 pre-installed (two Sony and an MSI).
There is an issue with the AACS Keys not updating. The process hangs and the AACS keys do not update.
This can prevent playback of newer Blu-ray titles (retail/rental).
The Corel site is useless and offers NO HELP WHATSOEVER. There is no point logging into your existing Corel account (Ulead) or creating a new one. Do not write to them - they don't write back.
The answer is quite simple. Run WinDVD 8 in admin mode (right click - run as administrator).
It's been like this for a couple of years. I remember seeing it on my previous Vaio AR51 and a mates HTPC (also a Vaio). The Vaio machines also required a patch directly from Sony plus IIRC a firmware update for the writer.
It was so long ago that I'd forgotten what the fix was but found it just now via a Google search - came up on a Vaio forum.
I've got the MSI playing. Will have a dabble with the Vaio machines on Monday - I expect run as admin" to work.
