Hi. Is the Manfrotto 501 head adequate for use with the Canon XM-2 or should I go for the 503?

I want to be able to achieve smooth pans and have heard differening views on the above mentioned heads. Anyone have any advice or experience with this?

i've used the 501 head with an xl1 which is heavier than the Xm2.
i beleive this head was designed for cameras in this weight bracket so i would of thought it would be fine.
i personally like the head

Agreed. I use the 501 with a Sony PD100 and a Sony VX1000 and the fluid head is a dream.
