Adding color tones to video

Hi i'm new here so please forgive me for asking this question!

Im making a movie that is set in the 1940's and I'm using World War II as the theme so my question is how do I make the movie seem a bit older in other words with a bit fading colours (something like Saving private Ryan, or Band of Brothers)?

I use Adobe Premier.

De-saturating is probably what you need to do.
I don't use Prem, but I'm sure you'll find 'Hue & saturation' in your video filters. Just play with them to see what you can get.
