Alt+drag of timecode in FCP3 (but not FCP4?)

I often use alt+drag to move a timecode from the browser to the log/capture window, to find places on tape, etc.

However, this is on a old Mac with FCP3 which I use just for logging and capturing.

When preparing to upgrade it to FCP4, I have noticed that with FCP4 on a different Mac, this alt+drag trick doesn't seem to work anymore.

It's not the OS (same on both machines), or the tape deck (tried two different decks on both Macs).

Anybody with any comments/suggestions/workarounds? I would like to carry on alt+dragging timecodes in FCP4! TIA.

Research on a long and sticky thread on Apple's own FCP forum shows that this appears to be a manifestation of a "feature that Apple broke" in going from FCP3 to FCP4. Great! Thanks, Apple.

This alt+drag timecode to the log&capture window is so useful that I now have to keep FCP3 on an old Mac which I use just for logging/capturing/clip-realtime extraction.

Just to resurrect and old thread, that didn't trigger any ideas back in February.

This is still a problem, as it is stopping me from upgrading my capturing machine beyond FCP3. Any thoughts, anyone?
