Anyone know what these are like - SONY HVR-270E

Just  been offered one but I don't know if they are any good or not.  I have no experience with them and though I need a shoulder mounted machine I am wondering if this is a bit too rich for my taste. I have looked over the few reviews that there are and it seems to have everything I want but I don't trust the reviews all that much.
Any advice would be welcome.

It's a Z7 in a big case. We had the SD predecessor model (DSR250P) which was really good at the time.

EX1, EX1R and EX3 are 1/2 cameras and generally better in almost every respect & possibly cheaper.

Unless you've been offered the 270 really cheap then I'd give it a swerve.

Had one for a couple of years plus 2 Z7`s, good workhorse camera but one thing really hacked me off! It`s predessor, the DSR250 could output via the flip out as well as composite which was very helpfull when using in a theatre situation, I feed my shot to madam & she to mine, that enables us to be safe when the other is moving, backed up with talkbacks. For some reason best known to Sony, you couldn`t do this with the S270.

I`d also agree with Gavin!

But weirdly, you can output with the Z7

Hopefully the 270 comes with the card recorder back

Which reminds me of something else! The card unit works very well, none of the annoying possible loss of recorded media that can happen via tape, BUT, a couple of times when I was doing some work for Yell with lots of stop/start recording, the card became hot & stopped recording, the answer was to take the card out & hold it against a cold surface to cool it down.

Okay folks, thanks for the heads up on this one. It's not that cheap so I'll walk by this time. Again, many thanks.

I was quite surprised to recently find out the S270 is still listed as current. ( http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/index.php?t=product/sony_hvr-s270e ) I'll go along with most of the other comments above - nothing wrong with it as a camera, but frankly technology has moved on, and few people would dream of now paying the new price for one (nearly £7,000 incl VAT! How much have you been offered one for?) There was a period when it filled a niche very well, and that might have been when solid state was so expensive that it was only realistic when you could download often. For other users, it was pay a lot for HDCAM or DVCProHD tape - or go HDV if you wanted HD. I also know of one person who mainly needed SD, DVCAM and tape in a shouldermount form, but also wanted a HD capability. For them, the S270 was the obvious choice.

I was told he would take £2000 for it but as it is just over my budget I stood back somewhat until I found out more about it.
