I have just built the following PC and find that I can capture and playback OK - but if I use and transitions or video filters the PC locks up and needs the reset button pushed to reboot.
I am using Media Studio Pro 5.2. If I use Adobe Premiere 6.01 or Media Studio Pro 6VE I have no such freeze problems, although the programs are not "bed fellows" with AV Master.
Where do I start ?
PC Spec.
Asus K7V Raid motherboard (latest Bios and VIA drivers)
256Mb PC133 memory
AMD Athlon 1GB 266FSB processor
300W ATX Power supply
4Gb Quantum and 40 GB IBM ATA100 hard drives
ATI Rage Fury Pro AGP graphics card
Pyro DV card
Soundblaster 128 Live
Thats about it - as I said - capture and playback fine - just don't try and do any filters or transitions or it's lockup time.
Thanks
Richard
It sounds as if the the preview settings are wrong. If you install the AV Master drivers (must be the correct version of drivers for your versions of Windows and MSP) AFTER Media Studio Pro it should automatially set MSP up with the correct settings. However, just check manually that it is set to the AV Master codec, 25fps, 720x576 etc.
Another thing to check - AV Master must have its own IRQ between 9 and 15. If it is sharing an IRQ, try installing it into a different PCI slot.

The AV Master card has choosen an IRQ of 5 so should I change this to one above 9 thats maybe free???
I am confused though as to why if it's an IRQ problem the card captures and playbacks OK - it's only when you use MSP and apply a filter or trans that the system locks.
It doesn't lock under Premiere with filters or trans.
Using FAST capture build 19 for WIN98SE and MSP5.2. The default installed is capture 768x576 not 720x576.
Thanks
Richard
Yes, it is strange that it still allows you to capture and play back, but not preview. However, you still have to get AV Master on an IRQ between 9 and 15. This can be done either by moving the card to a different slot or assigning an IRQ in the BIOS.
"The default installed is capture 768x576 not 720x576."
Sorry, I meant 768x576.

Ok I reassigned IRQ9 to the card - no conflicts etc but still lock ups when you use MSP. What next would you suggest trying to solve this problems?
Your patience and advice is very much appreciated BTW.

As an update - I removed the SB Live card - no difference - then I removed and reinstalled the VIA chipset drivers - magic - it works 90% off the time fine now - just the occassional freeze. So fresh from this success I spent 6 hours last night editing. Great. Then today the computer loops around saying register problem - restart - fix - restart - reg problem - restart - etc you get the pic.
So looks like maybe the Athlon may have cooked itself last night doing all that work - awww poor thing. The onboard monitor never showed anything over 65 degrees for the CPU and 40 degrees for the motherboard.
Back to the supplier tomorrow to see what has gone awol - will keep you posted.
