Oh give me strength! Now we have 'rocking backward and forward' cam. Hit the off button, another brilliant programme ruined by appalling, unnecessary, childish, schoolboy camera work. I've sent my complaint - again - no doubt I'll get the same 'couldn't care less' reply.

But at least Autumn Watch has got one of the best Sound Supervisors in the business on board - Louise Willlcox.

So at least that will be fine.

Not like Ripper Street sound! I had read in the paper of the poor quality of the sound so I used my wireless headphones whilst watching it on catch-up & still struggled to make it out. I think part of the problem is the use of language of the era which is not in general use today so you lose the ability to interpret some visually. Still a good drama but I do think the sound could be better!

I thought the ripper St sound was iffy as well.

I put it down to the deliberate muttering of the character and Barry's language suggestion.

But I have just started watching a fair few drama reruns on Drama, early 90's BBC. Presumably they were still on film then, and it looks like they were, but the sound is far from perfect.

It's more down to the levels between takes and the ambience changing. Maybe post production's come on a lot more than we give credit for, and standards then weren't as high as we think

Thanks for that, lads.  And I thought my hearing was going.

It is partly due to the experience of the Sound Recordist - but also a lot of younger actors tend to mumble.

Also - the director has the script and can read what the actors are saying, so doesn't realise that the words are mumbled and cannot be understood.

If you want to hear a TV programme with good sound, watch "New Tricks" - great actors who project and don't mumble, coupled with a very experienced sound recordist - Simon Bishop.

Couldn`t agree more! We are both avid followers of "New Tricks" I even have the theme tune as my ringtone smiley But have to confess that it`s disappointing that the characters have been changed.

Oh no - I think it's excellent with the new characters.

It was beginning to get a little tired and I think they did very well with the change - it has breathed new life into the series.

Nothing against the old characters - they are all excellent actors - but with new characters you can explore new story lines - and I love the daughter character.

Full marks from me.
