batch conversion

This is linked to my other thread "bitmaps wont save" which has wandered off down memory lane. ;) I have been convinced that I should be archiving in Tiffs rather than BMPs.

There is a general consensus that BMPs are not very good, not just on this forum, but all over the net.

I have already about 1000-1500 saved as BMPs and I have never used batch conversion before.

Anybody got any tips for the best way to convert in bulk, or even by folder.

PS one of Gary's click by click illustrated guides would be nice. ;)

ok
i need to know what software you have access to

i.e photoshop elements / photoshop / paintshop pro etc

i also have a friend who writes software and he has a nice ''resizer'' he wrote.

i'll look into doing a simple ''photoshop elements'' one first

Gary I have elements on my laptop, but use Photoshop CS2 and have access to Paintshop Pro. CS2 would be best, but whichever is quickest.

Thanks

Gary I have elements 2 on my laptop and it has batch conversion.

So it would probably be better for me to move stuff to laptop and do the conversion there?

Time taken to move files doesn't really matter, as I can do other things.

very easy and popular free app is IRFANVIEW from irfanview.com

I use it for batch processing all the time.

can implement many many changes during the batch, too.

I started transferring folders to my laptop before Gary sent the CS2 tip, so I had half on each computer. Had a frantic hour or two batch converting on both at the same time.

Got it all done in half the time. :)

I was alerted to Irfanview from these pages some 3 or 4 years ago and find it a tremendous tool for batch converting.
