Belkin router modem connection problems!

Hi
My broadband ISP is Tiscali.
I have a Belkin ADSL modem with wireless router combined and the Tiscali supplied USB speedtouch modem. I have two laptops on the network running XP Home SP2. The wireless works perfectly, but the modem connection is my problem.
I am at the end of a long wire from the exchange, but just within the five miles.
My router dials the ISP first thing in the morning and connects no problem. Then later on it will lose the signal. From then on it will dial but will not re connect. If I unplug the router and hook up the USB modem I get connected right away!
I did get it working for a while, but even then it would disconnect every evening at 6pm, about the time we need the network for the second computer.
I have spoken several times to Belkin help desk who have tried to help but it is no better.
Tiscali say not their problem......
I wondered if anyone had encountered a similar problem and had found a work around?
I have been hassling this for three frustrating months and am close to buying a second phone line.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Tiscali ...... last week causing major grief with misconfigured routers .....
2. my adsl router ( linksys ) will run for days , though it does get switched off monday-friday 8.00am to 6.30pm.
3. there should be a complete router reset routine , maybe even a physical switch on the router.
after making sure you have all the info to get connected , disconnect router from adsl line , then switch router off.
wait 10 minutes ....... switch router on , but still not connected to adsl and perform reset
then re-enable all the settings required to connect to isp.
connect router to adsl
should now work.

Hi Filmaker, I had the same problem when I installed my Belkin router. The speedtouch modem is the problem. Tiscali should be supplying you with an upgraded modem (or threaten to leave them!!)

Hi Cary and Gary
Thanks for your help.
I did as you suggested Gary and it worked!
A big thank you.
I'll let you know if it keeps working.
What did you mean by Tiscali causing grief last week with misconfigured routers?

Hi
The highs and lows of networking.
The router worked fine for 32 hours. Then the connection was lost and that was yesterday and no connection since. I have repeated the fix that you gave me, but now it seems to have no effect. Drag huh? What I don't understand is this. Why can the supplied modem dial 0.38 and connect right away when the router/modem also dials 0.38 and cannot. I am beginning to think that the router/modem has an issue with authentication of username and password, or that the modem itself has a fault. Any thoughts anyone?

1. tiscali had routers sending duff routing and possibly false dns entries to the rest of europe. some friends had to use known good proxy servers to bypass the messup.

2. if it worked once , i would suggest that the tiscali end is the problem ..... no shock there.
