My son has a Pentax Opio 50 stills camera. He is complaining that the re-chargeable 1300ma NI-MH batteries don't last very long.
My brother-in-law says he cannot get any re-chargeable batteries to work in his. (Make unknown)
Before I buy some 2400ma, does anyone know if they will actually last longer. It`s eating Duracell Alkaline and they don't last very long either.

John, some cameras don't work well with rechargeable batteries as the voltage is lower 1.2v per cell rechargeable as opposed to 1.5v non rechargeable. It is not the fact that rechargeable don't last long enough it's just the lower voltage can mean the camera can cut off or shut down as quick as a non recharegeable battery & then you are left thinking you have wasted your money buying rechargeables.

I would have the camera checked over at a reputable camera repair centre. H Lehmann in Stoke On Trent are extremely good

Thanks Cary.
The camera is only a few weeks old. It does look as if it`s a case of pot luck in what you buy.
I thought it may be that, there is a good .5 volt difference. He will have to take plenty of spares with him.

If you can, go for the 3200 mah and get a decent brand, I've used Uniross in the past when I had compacts and they were good, try to use the viewfinder instead of the LCD when possible and you'll massively increase battery life, and yes 2400 should last almost twice as long as 1300 and so on.

A top quality charger like the MAHA MH-C204W is a definite advantage.

Thanks.
I was in Maplin today, they had 2400ma but I couldn't see 3200ma. There were chargers with batteries at £29.99 all with the built on 13A plug. The MAHA MH-C204W is more sensible with just the mains lead..

In the past I've bought mine online at 7dayshop.com at the minute they seem to only have 2600 in stock, but at under a pound each you could by 8 and have one set charging while you use the others (which is more sensible anyway)
