So I've been in contact with a few new clients lately and one is a teacher who wants a video of him teaching students and such. Right now I have a shotgun mic, (Azden SGM1X) and just ordered a wired lapel (Audio Technica AT831B) however I feel I should soon order a wireless lapel mic so I don't have to tie people down with cables all the time.
I really would love to get a Sennheiser G3 rig but I'm very tight on cash at the moment and so I'm wondering how a system in the $300 price range would be compared to a $5-600 system. I'm sure it's worth saving up for in the end, but are the budget systems going to work ok?
Any suggestions on kits in the $300 price range?
I've been looking at the Azden 310LT UHF.
We're a mainly UK forum, so the Azden isn't a product we see over here very much.
As I understand it the US is also shifting frequency bands, so before you buy anything it's worth checking that you don't have the situation we have, where the cheaper products are all being squashed into a busy license free area of spectrum where interference potential is high and conflict pretty inevitable.
Converting your dollars to pounds suggests that in terms of build quality and audio quality, let alone RF performance, you won't get a lot. Deduct the price of a decent mic and what is left is not a lot for a decent transmitter and receiver.
For occasional use, I'd hire in pro quality radio kit rather than buy a bit of a toy that could easily let you down. An old stock, genuine, not counterfeit Sennheiser G2 would be much better value, and ebay may be your friend (or not).
