I have an XH A1 and I have seen people using the Datavideo DN60 to record to compact flash from firewire, however these are quite expensive, are there any other similar solutions.
Cheers Steve
Does the camera have an HDMI output?
If it does the Atomos Ninja would provide a cheaper solution.
If it would be any use to you, I have a Ninja 1 which I no longer use and would consider selling.
Unfortunately as far as I know the XH-A1 does not have a HDMI socket.
There are a few CF alternatives to the DN-60A, but it is still by far the cheapest I've seen at less than £400 new and around £250 secondhand off fleabay.

Other than that you are probably talking secondhand as HDV and Firewire are now considered to be "old technology" and are no longer in most manufacturers product lines.
You can pick up a Focus Enhancements HD DTE recorder fairly cheap secondhand, but whilst it may be cheaper, secondhand does have disadvantages, like the availability and cost of new batteries for the likes of a Firestore FS-4 or the higher chance of HD failure etc.
Using the component connections, you might be able to use an Atomos Ninja with a component to HDMI converter like this one : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%AE-Component-Converter-Supports-Lifetime/dp/B002C7CCJ6
OK, unfortunately it is going to need 5 V DC power .... maybe a li-on battery pack to keep everything portable?....
Just come across this so sorry for the (exreme) delay. The XHA1 does have HDMI output..
I feel sure Steve will know this but . . .
Cheers
Thanks for the reply, do you mean HDMI out
through component.
Cheers
Not sure what Ron is on about, I still maintain that there is no HDMI output from a XH A1.
Although I do not possess that camera, I do have it's big brother the XL-H1 which has the same connections plus a few more.
The component output is exactly as it says "analogue component" and would require converting to a digital signal for HDMI as Rogs said.
Oops . . . ! Too long away. The Canon A1 is NOT a Canon A10. Sorry.
