Good .... now maybe some new people will see how powerful Edius can be for people like me.
aha! i was wondering how i was going to edit demo footage from our HD100 demo unit... when it eventually turns up! :D
seriously though, it'll be good to see more people using Edius. From what i've seen of it at DVC and VideoForum it's a fantastic bit of software.
My laptop only runs at 2GHz. :(
Canopus looks to have sorted out the problem with the download - and it's coming down here at 136Mbit/sec - so about 25mins in all, cos the version that's there now is a fraction larger than the previous version - 223.7MByte, rather than 220MByte.

Chirpy,
You need a faster laptop.
Hang on, I thought the screen was duff on your laptop.

It is - but I've been using it with the CRT screen from my old 800MHz PC. Hopefully it should be okay next week. I'm staying with a friend in Norwich who thinks he can fix it - no, his name's not Jim ;-)

Edius is running fairly happily on the following machines
1. PC in my signature ..... i.e. twin xeon
2. Sony Vaio 2.1Ghz Desktop
3. Gateway 2000 p450 updated with a p3 1.4ghz chip.( using rt2000 as a purely ieee1395 card )
It won't do hdv on any , but then i don't have HD footage or aquisition capability , but does do DV very nicely.
1 video I finished editing for a local 'Adult Education Unit' is going to be duplicated ( hopefully ) by The Scottish Office for passing round other groups.
Thanks Gary,
I've sent off for the CD as I won't be able to begin the trial for another month or so. I'll be busy editing 18 hours of talks from our convention at Norwich next weekend.
Well i'm gonna give it ago coupled with the storm
but i doubt i will find it favourable
the interface is just too away from the norm
(mind you whats the norm these days?)

Gary,
Are you SURE that none of these PCs (well, the twin Xeon and the Vaio) can do HDV?
Oh and good luck with the video you made!

Chirpy,
Ah, I missed your posting about using an external monitor. Good luck with the putative repair.
Oh, and what do you mean by "our convention"?

Every summer Jehovah's Witnesses run a three-day seminar of Bible-based talks. As there are too many of us to meet in one location we hold them in various football or rugby stadiums up and down the country to cover each district. We call the event a 'District Convention' and our 'local' one is in Norwich which caters for about 10,000 of us in the area. I'm going a few days early this year to help setup the sound system. Then from Thurday I'll film and edit the whole event and send a copy to all our local congregations so all the housebound ones don't miss out. There's a similar convention at Twickenham in a few weeks. (I'll save you a seat if you'd like to come? I'm in need of a Gaffer. :D )
Just finished editing some footage for a CBS camera man, and he was extrememly impressed by it. So impressed in fact, I recieved an order for a system, for himself. I love it, I really do, I only jumped from premiere 6.5 about 6 months ago, Hopefully this demo will attract some new customers...

well the twin xeon is less powerful than the one i played with at videoforum and it was being pushed to do two tracks realtime with any clever effects without rendering.
i want a pc doing hdv at the same capabilities as my twin xeon does dv .... so will see if work will buy a new box next year.
it will be canopus based , after seeing the capabilities.
i will see if i can get hold of some hdv and see if they play it/handle it /edit it .... and to what level.
we'll see where we go with this video ...... 3 weeks ago it was urgent we re-soundtracked it ...... now i am hearing nothing ..... typical Scottish Office. .......... they'll be on holiday till end of august :)
thank you for giving trail version of EDIUS
