Hi guys.

I stopped the long task i was on (pressure from big sis to get this done).

I have imported the first of three tapes onto the timeline in premiere, and have captured all the stills, including some frames that were not "stills".
(Using Gary's suggestion).

They are all saved in a folder as "bmp files" i do not know my sisters photo software, just that she does use windows.

Would it be better to save these as bmp or convert them to jpeg ?
Which do people think would be most compatable?

Any ideas/solutions appreciated.

Kindest regards all

any microsoft os machine can read bmp's
any decent picture software should be able to read jpegs

suggest you save as both types and store on cdr

depending upon how much work she wants to do to them something like targa / tiff would allow minimum compression and therefore better quality for editing.(but take up more disc space)

Dear Gary,

Thanks again for the much appreciated advice,
Your suggestion for saving the stills from the timeline worked like a dream

Only trouble was/is i sit through the 1hour per tape x3 tapes, to see the "stills" (almost paused playback).
But sis has taken some great footage of Italy, so its not too bad at all.

Thanks again for all the help.

Kind regards.

Stuart, here's a suggestion to ease the selection process.

I have ScenalyserLive, $33. With it, I can import an entire tape in about 5 minutes. It does this in shuttle mode so the pictures are nasty. But,it identifies each shot and presents them as a list, with an icon film-strip view. I can go to any shot, and scan through it, if I want that shot I can check a box and tell the software to batch capture it because the software knows (to within a second) exactly where the shot is on tape.

On Wednesday this week, I did this for 9 63 minute tapes recorded while on holiday. The whole process, including making a listing of the tape contents for later use, took just under 2 hours.

ScenalyserLive captures in AVI formatr, but has options to capture just the sound as WAV, and will customise the capture in a range of AVI formats. It's worth getting the free demo version to see how well it works. I would now be lost without it.

Dear Alan,

just read the specification,
Seems it will not work/compatable with "Canopus" Cards

Do you think it would work with an OHCI Compliant card ?
I still have this in my computer,

Kind regards

Stuart

It does work with OHCI cards. I've got it in my "new" P4 XP with a Datavision card and it's just wonderful.
