How can I convert a presentation in Powerpoint so that I can export it to video tape. I have an EZDV capture card but can find no way to convert the .ppt files to .avi. Have I missed something?

there are a couple of programs which allow capture of screen to avi file including camtasia.
these have been discussed here before , do a search for camtasia.

another way is to export (save as ) all slides as jpg files and then import them to the nle editing software and recreate the powerpoint file as a video.

If you have a graphics card with an s-video output in addition to the normal VGA port for your monitor you can set up the s-video output to display the desktop and record the Presentation to a vcr or your camcorder if that is enabled in.

Capture images back to your hard disk
