Where can you buy music which wouldn't infringe any copyrights if you put on a DVD??
I would like to have dramatic style music on DVD menus etc. but don't know where to start.
Can I use copyrighted music on a DVD? Is this a big cuffuffle?? Anyone know anything about this?
First place to start is a search right here on the Forum! There are loads of post on this subject.
There are a number of companies that specialise in producing Copyright or Royalty free music
AKM is one that readily springs to mind but there are others.

There's a real wealth of stuff now available - so good, some not so good. There's some good deals on buy out stuff on Ebay, from an Australian company that I'm tempted by.
Many sites are springing up on the web where you can buy individual tracks - THIS ONE is offering a free $20 track/s just for signing up to it's newsletter.
Shockwave sound is also a good site to look at.
thanks for the information, will do some forum searching too =)
Try jamendo.com there are many thousands of albums released with creative commons licenses which may allow commercial use at no cost (sometimes attribution is required) - check the license on the particular album or sound clip because some prohibit commercial use. See http://www.jamendo.com/en/creativecommons
A piece of music of exactly the right length (to the second) adds a professional touch, especially to things like end rollers. Adobe Premiere 6.0 and 6.5 included a free version of Smartsound in their package and I often use this since it has a wide range of themes and moods and will, as I day, generate a piece of music with a beginning, a middle and an end to an exact length. In fact, the versions of Smartsound in 6.0 and 6.5 have different content, so if you have both they can be combined together for the widest range of music.
Another reason why Premiere 6.x lives on!

perhaps we should have a sticky with these links in and details about the copyright MCPS & PPL operate
No problem, find a collection of them and I'll happily create a sticky. Starting with this one.
