A different audio crackle?

I'm glad to see the message from fast/dazzle regarding the upcoming fix for the audo crackle problem, but I'm a bit confused about something. I get the impression from that message that the problem is strictly in the playback routine, not a fault in the actual data file.

In that case, I may have a different problem. I'm attempting to import some stock clips using fast.forward. These are clips that were originally built using a Fast AV Master and Media Studio Pro. I've used my AV Master and MSP6.0 to convert the video to "dv" format, 48/16 audio, resolution, etc. The sections play just fine. I move them to my DVNow AV machine, they still play fine, audio is crystal clear. I import them into a fast.forward project and they develop a horrible crackling.

In this case I'm pretty sure it's not in the playback routine because if I take one of the descreet audio track .wav files and open it elsewhere (winamp, media player, etc), the noise is part of it. (It shows in waveform mode too)

Is this something I might be able to address through settings somewhere (I've read the manual(s), but have only had the card since Xmas so I'm green) or might this be a manifestation of the known crackle problem?

I am not sure whether it is a different audio crackle. We cannot test this problem here in the UK office, because we only have PAL systems. A beta version of the new 1.5 software has just been released, which is supposed to fix the audio crackle problems in NTSC setups. It is version 1.5.0207_A and can be downloaded from the beta software section of www.dazzle-europe.com.

Looks like the beta section is on the dazzle-fast.de site. The .com site. still has 2.06 as of 9 PM New York time.

Thanks. I overlooked the beta driver section. I've now downloaded and tried it. It doesn't seem to change the import noise.

I'll redirect the question to Dazzle's forum linked from the US page.

Thanks again!

Ok I have the same problem and after installing build 0207a it still doesn't work. And the default IS IN the captured audio file!!

You can go check my sample at : www.geocities.com/hugo_charbonneau

You can hear some noise at second 8 and second 13. I checked and it comes randomly. This noise is NOT on my MiniDV tape. I also tried to deactivate the Windows Sound System but it does not change anything. I also tried to play the WAV file to another computer to make sure it was not my playback.

Can anyone help me...pleeeease. I cannot start capturing until I fix that problem!! And I have about 10 hours of stuff to capture from tapes!!!!

Here is my config:

AMD Thunderbird 800
Abit KT7A-RAID (Raid 0 config w/ 2 HDD)
Windows 2000 (SP1)
Sound Blaster Live
Fast 1.5.0207_A
NTSC

Cheers

Which chip set and graphics card are you using?

Is it there if you pull the sound card?

Are you on IRQ 9, 10, or 11?

Is something else sharing the same IRQ wiht the DV.now AV card?

I am using a ASUS V7100 MX 32MB GeForce2

My card IRQ is 11 and is shared because ACPI is installed

Should I remove ACPI. I heard mixed opinions about that!!

Thanks

I would try removing ACPI. I've heard that it can cause issues with some systems. If nothing changes, turn it back on.l

I deactivated ACPI, disabled my Ethernet card, disabled my sound card, disabled my unused IDE controller. I made sure my DV.now AV was on its own IRQ alone (on IRQ 5).

But after all this...NOTHING CHANGED!!! I still get the phreakin' crackle! Damned I'm near to send back my card!!!

Help me someone. Help me Dazzle support. This seems impossible to me that I am alone with this problem!!! What happened with you Gridman. Did you solve your problem??

I am more than willing to work with Dazzle support to find a way for them to reproduce the problem.
