DV-Bridge is deleted after short time

After installing Hollywood DV-Bridge, everything went ok until Windows XP deleted the device after about a minute of it being detected.
Every time I power up the device, XP detects it fine, then a short time after it is deleted, with the familiar "high to low" tone to alert you that a device has been switched off or removed.

While it is "detected", Device Manager shows the device as -
Imaging Devices : AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player

After it is deleted, the above category is removed.

The only unexpected thing was that the booklet says it supplies a 6 pin to 6 pin cable, but it actually supplied a 6 pin to 4 pin cable, but the ASUS motherboard has the connector for this, so I am assuming the problem is elsewhere.

Running XP Version 2002 Service pack 1
Motherboard : Asus A7V8X with AMD Athlon XP 2100+ 512MB Ram
BIOS has been updated to the latest version 1011 beta 4, dated December 2002
Built-in sound card : Avance AC97

Can anyone offer an explanation or solution?
Many thanks
