Has anyone tried using DV.nowAV with an AMD Athlon /VIA chipset motherboard? Tried Fast but no luck. There have been warnings against this combination with other DV cards.
Any information appreciated.

I have not personally tested it, but the type of problems that the K-6 had just have not existed in Athlon and the current motherboards. That said, most products are designed and tested with PIII. This is an area that AMD really needs to address, so that users can feel confident in using Athlon/Duron

Customers and dealers have been reporting that there are problems using VIA Chipsets and AMD Athlons with DV.now in PC-Systems. The main problems are that the cards do not initilize or do not show an inlay or the whole system performance is bad/unstable. These problems were reproduceable with e.g. Medion 9901 (complete system) as well as with systems using Epox-, Gigabyte-, DFI- or NMC-Mainboards or Asus-Motherboard KM7. Systems with Intel-Chipsets and -CPU work fine with all our products.
Despite to a lot effort of our Quality Assurance department there is up to now no solution available. Therefore we do not recommend to use DV.now with VIA-Chipsets or AMD Athlon.

Many thanks to Fast Tech Support for a full and frank reply. It will, I am certain be very helpful to a lot of people.
Pity their telephone call centre guy could not have told me all that when I phoned. He didn't even know DV.now.AV was on sale in the UK when I rang a few days ago. He asked me to tell him who was advertising it in Computervideo.
That said, I am going ahead with this board but with a Pent III 800 system.
Our Quality Assurance department has been working on the problem with VIA chipsets for some time now. The latest news from them is that the very recent VIA chipsets should work fine with our products - it is only the older ones that cause the problems. However, please do not rush out and buy one just yet. We would like to do more thorough testing so there will be more detailed information soon.

More good news from Fast on AMDs, but I already decided to play safe and get a Pentium and non VIA board. I got a PIII 800 + nonVIA m'board for the same price as an Athlon 900 & VIA board.
I have just taken delivery of my DV.nowAV very efficiently provided by Siren Technology who also thoughtfully provide their own VHS video for installation and operation to get you started. Fast provide two printed manuals, a thick one for DV.now and a thin one for the extra functions provided by DV.nowAV. I have to say this worries me a bit at because it might mean a lot of cross referencing. But in fairness to Fast, they do at least provide a printed version! It all looks well presented but I noticed one section of the manual on AV output settings that says “Detailed Settings were not available when this manual was generated, refer to readme file....â€!
There is also a CD and manual for Premier 5 with a Ligos LSX-MPEG CD for Premier LE plus a lite version of DVDit. A lot to be getting on with but a lot of potential for good fun.
Including the DVDit software could represent a very important development. I can’t help feeling there are soon going to be a lot of people editing on their PCs who’s work will never be recorded onto tape of any description. Carrying around relatively short sequences on disk will be ideal for my purposes (lecturing and training).

Just wanted to let people know I've been using the DV.now AV for about 2 weeks on a 1.1ghz Athlon system, and it has worked flawlessly. I've been using the latest 1.5 beta software under WinME and Win2K.
My specs:
CPU: 1.1ghz Athlon Thunderbird
MB: Abit KT7-RAID (KT133 VIA chipset)
OS: Windows Millenium/Windows 2000 dual boot

Quantum Fireball LCT 20 (20 Gb) ATA100 boot hard disc;
2 Quantum Fireball AS30 (30 Gb) ATA100 hard discs;
NVIDIA TNT2 Model 64 video board;
DV Master board;
Windows NT Workstation 4.0;
Speed Razor 4.8.
After 1 - 3 minutes of capture the system crashes (freeze) or Speed Razor automatically stop capture (without crash).
What is the problem?
