Would anyone like to comment on the time it takes for editing a (roughly) 45 minute film with simple transitions here and there and a minimum of titling beginning and ending - and what settings/system parts are commonly used?   T.I.A.

Re: Editing time in FCPX
that's a kind of "how long does it take to dig a hole?" question.

I don't use FCPX (I'm 7)

I sometimes do videos that re just topped and tailed. Sometimes I do three min videos that consist of hundreds of shots matched to music.

Are you asking about  render times etc? and capture/imports?

Ron in practise it should only take as long as you are orginized in your Event Browser with all your clips showing and you know what shoots to lay in your timeline. About 1 too 2 hours max.

Thanks for that Maxwell.    I'm referring to HD quality shared from the timeline to be burned onto a BD disk.   Compressor seems to be the way but the time taken is quite something, hence my quest to know who does what and exactly  how.   I'd have liked to get an A to B type of comment from anyone who works in HD and exports through Share to wherever.

so actually that's a compressor question?

I don't use FCPx so does Compressor come with it?

Compressor is a very good programme and gives great results if set up properly in preferences

Compressor works best on multi processor models using a virtual cluster, it can however be a little 'glitchy' (technical term) but it can dramatically improve render times in Compressor. Many people either don't know about it or can't figure out how to set it up. There's many tutorials on the web - search for "Virtual Cluster with Compressor" - Try this tutorial to start with.

Very very belatedly and with apologies and thanks to all and sundry here . . .

I'm sure somebody will say I've got it wrong but  -   I've stuck to Share in FCPX and publishing through Toast because I couldn't find Compressor making any difference to the overall quality!

Hope you all had a happy Xmas and have enjoyed this year so far . . . !
