Hi Folks,

I'm looking for suggestions for a new graphics card for my Mac Pro that is suitable for FCP X I don't want to spend more than £100 especially as my Mac pro is only 2 and a half years old.

I seen this

http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-Radeon-HD-5770-DisplayPort/dp/B003YL0WPU/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1309211624&sr=8-10

but I'm not sure if it is a good one or not. I find myself lost at Graphics cards. Any help would be great

Thanks.

Hello, i don't think this card will work with a Mac. Graphics cards have specific Mac versions, and i think your £100 budget is likely to behugely optimistic, sadly.

Have a look on e-bay, I picked up my second mac radeon card for £90, it's not HD but as my 21" cinema screens aren't HD anyway it doesn't matter as I have a full 1080 screen hooked up to my blackmagic card.

That's great info guys, I'll have a look but it's looking around the £200.

Thanks

I just checked and I have a ATI Radeon 512mb X1900XT card feeding my two apple cinema 21" displays and an ATI Radeon 256mb HD2600XT (£90 from e-bay) feeding my 1080 TV with full HD via a DVI to HDMI cable if I need to use the screen direct from the mac desktop, it also feeds a second monitor for the voice over set-up.

There are some on e-bay from here at a decent price and I think the HD2600XT will be ideal as an upgrade/addition for you and give you full HD capability: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ATI-Radeon-HD-2600-XT-256MB-DVI-DVI-Video-Card-Mac-Pro-/200605772704?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item2eb5092ba0

That card also gives you some warranty and if you are not happy with it at least you can send it back to the company selling them.

Hi
People with 2008 Mac Pros with the 2600XT graphics card are reporting that the App Store refuses to sell FCP X to them as that graphics card is unsupported.

You can get plenty NVidia GTX285s for Mac on eBay (just make sure it's the Mac version), but I suspect that with the exodus to Premiere, they may be at a premium right now as they make that app fly. FCPX is quite restrictive as to what card it will accept, but they are listed somewhere on the Apple website.

I bought one of those cards recently...but there are no UK ones available on EBAY now, as far as I can see.

Well if my current kit is not supported I doubt if I will ever be getting FCPX then!

You have to have at least a Radeon 3000 to run FCP X
