Help with QT

It's a long time since I registered my QT Pro stuff and recently I suggested to a friend that he could get QT for assistance with his graphics in Windows.   He now emails me to say that he can't get it up and running and reports:

I have bought Apple's Quick Time 7 pro, and:
1.     I have received a receipt
2.     I have received a registration code
3.     The programmes name has appeared on the list under 'Programmes'
4.     The 'Quick Time Player' icon has appeared on my desktop.
In spite of all that, I can't use the programme and when I get to the place where I enter my code on their page, it goes straight to the Apple Store inviting me to buy the same programme.

Despite having had QT Pro for years, I can't help him.   Anyone with the answer . . . ?   T.I.A.

?? - Not too sure about QT7 Pro on Windows but on a Mac the registration code entry is under Preferences from the file menu - no page to go to to enter it.

Edit - just checked using Win 7 / QT (non pro) / Parallels - the reg screen is under Edit > Preferences > Register

I think I've worked out what he's doing - when you start QT it asks if you want to go "Pro" - he's saying Yes and it then goes to the Apple site - what he should do is say No, then Edit menu > Preferences > Register and enter his reg info.

You're right, Foxy.   He's now got to:

"Couldn't open file MOVO7B.MOD because it is not a file that Quick Time understands"

. . . so I think there's a chance he'll get somewhere but I still can't  help him.   (I'm feeling quite guilty after more or less advising him to go for QT!)

Pretty sure QT won't open a .mod file - you need either Mpegstreamclip or VLC player - both free.

Okay, I've got both so I'm 'with' them all right, and will advise accordingly.

Thanks Dave.

Or change the extention to .MPG
