Lomo or 8mm effect advice please

I'm embarking on a project where I'm considering a lomo/poloroid style for some of the visuals or as an alternative the 8mm film look, ie discoloured, grainy, flickery, vignette.

Now I could set about building these looks with various filters/tools in FCP, but it would inevitably involve some trial and error.

So I was wondering if; a) anyone knew a good plugin filter (free or paid) that does either of these well or b) has some FCP filter settings they will happily share with me?

Many thanks.

Get an i-fone 4 and shoot with this app: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/8mm-vintage-camera/id406541444?mt=8

it is absolutely superb and will save you loads of time in post, I have used it on several projects that needed fake old movie footage.

Many different ways of achieving those sort of effects - top of the tree is Magic Bullet Looks - $399 or the cut down version - QuickLooks for $99

Lower down the food chain is "Russian Camera" by Riverrock Studios - $30

FXFactory (basic version with some plugins is free) includes DVShade EasyLooks that can be unlocked for £49, it has several basic presets that can be user modified.

Many of the other filter packages include options for Lomo or Super 8 - you'd have to check them out - See ToolFarm for most of them.

If you have FCP you also have Color, ideal for producing a certain look. Apple offer a free download of 90 different "looks" for Color that can also be modified to get the specific look you want. As a recent convert to Color, it's not as complicated as it first seems, a few free tutorial videos on the web will soon get you started - THIS one is excellent.
