It is to promote their LM licence..

A couple of points you have to have the video on the web your web site or Utube,
the LM licence does not cover this, no mention is made of the MCPS licence

so is it a honey trap?

Cheema,

I'm a little surprised at you raising this question. It appears to be organised in conjunction with the IOV and primarily aimed at it's members. In fact one of the prizes is a years IOV membership.

I can't believe you are actually suggesting that the IOV (or any organisation) would endorse a sting on their own members?

Actually, on this matter I have heard on the grapevine (from a fairly reliable source) that there is going to soon be a clamp-down on UK based video businesses using commercial music on the web and prosecutions will ensue. For some reason I was told this would especially apply to those using video clips on blogs (?) Could this be a part of this rumored witchunt?

I am not doubting the people running it, but the licence does not allow web use and or third parties, so they appear to be to allow you to do this but no mention is on the website of its OK for this competition.

There is a new licence to cover web use but quite expensive and its the pay again for the same product but different use.

Z, what "new licence" are you referring to here, specifically?

This one I believe, the IOV are using on one of their sites to allow Videos with commercial music

http://www.find-a-videographer.com/wedding (Zone 1 media)

And yes I did talk to someone about the online stuff, he was unaware of the competition and said U tube would be fine a it was U tube's responsibility for the licencing.

?I'm confused? That's a link to one of your own highlight videos?

What licence are you referring to, Z, that allows you to use copyrighted music on the web?

Is it this one? http://www.mcps-prs-alliance.co.uk/playingbroadcastingonline/online/InternetTV/Pages/internettv.aspx

As well as that Ofcom the latest revenue generating outlet for the government is proposing regulations for on-line TV and video services:eek:

A nice little earner as they can impose fines on anyone and not just the mainstream broadcasters:(

yes that's the one, not sure why I posted my link, must be running out of business, I apologise for that indiscretion.

The IOV is using (I believe) the GEOD licence, but as you are aware when ever you ring these people you get a different answer every time. I was told that my clip would be an advert and so I I would have to clear with the publisher and then apply for the LOEL licence.

Strange how music is not classed as advertising on the radio and so they have to pay to be on the radio like the rest of use.

I love the small print for the LM Licence guide:

Quote:
4.2 This Licence covers the supply by you of the Product for private use but not any of the following with respect to Repertoire Works:
...
(d) use on the internet.

...and for the LEOL guide:

Quote:
3.3 For the avoidance of doubt, this Agreement does not grant any synchronisation licence (to the extent that such a licence may be required by the Licensee) covering the initial fixation of Repertoire Works in combination with visual images to create and produce Audio-Visual Material.

This situation is really a mess isn't it?
