The symptoms are :-
Dropped frames, audio sync ahead of video image, video format constantly changing from pal to ntsc.
I have a Matrox Marvel G200 and use MediaStudio Pro VE version 5.02a.
The computer stats are:
Pentium 2, 450 mhz.
128 meg ram
Windows 98 10.1 gig hd
I have had this harware for 6 months and whilst setting the system up has had it’s ups and downs, things have been going fine for a while. When problems have occurred in the past I have managed to fix them thanks to this and other information resources. I am sure this problem can be overcome, but, having tried everything I have learned from numerous problems in the past, I am not getting any further ahead.
The Problem is this,
Video playback from rendered files off the timeline causes frames to be dropped and audio sync to run ahead of video playback. These dropped frames occur only when previewing the project. Capture reported clean recording. I am convinced that the problem started when I used the FX facility. The problem seems to manifest itself by changing the playback format from pal to ntsc in the properties section of the matrox pc vcr remote. This happens constantly in the vcr remote but not in vidcap or vid editor. I assume the resulting dropped frames are to do with the format changing from pal to ntsc , the two formats being incompatible as they run at different frame rates, (the mjpeg codec being controlled by the pcvcr remote). Having deleted all fx and overlays, the problem still exists but the individual files will run outside of msp and within msp other than render and save as file.
Does anyone have any ideas why the format should alter itself ? I have been running this combination for quite some time and admittedly it has happened before, but not with as much frequency or with such consequences. If I change the format back to pal in the matrox display properties section, it just goes back to ntsc as soon as I try to render again. I have deleted and reloaded the matrox software and the msp software, but still the problem occurs. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.could it be an operating system problem in win 98.I am loathe to re-format (again!), as I have three projects prepared and almost ready to transfer to tape. The setup for msp preview is the same as the files were originally captured (interleave audio etc), as suggested in one of Bob’s excellent articles published in computer video magazine.
Yours hopefully
Rick Barry.
