I've always used this in the past to convert DVD files to other formats. I think the last time I used it, I must have upgraded to the latest version.

I went to use it today to convert files from one of my own DVDs (ie produced by me, not a commercial one) and I got a message saying that the Apple MPEG2 playback component is not installed therefore it will not work.

Is this something new with this version of the application? If so, is there any way I can get hold of an older version which did not have this issue?

I thought that with FCS installed, all the relevant playback / decoding modules were installed anyway.

If I remember right it needs an Apple alternative and only one particular version does the job. I have just upgraded my computer so I will be looking for it myself sometime in the future. I used it to convert files from my Topfield PVR.

Hi
Here's what it says on the squared5.com Mac MPEG Streamclip page:

The Snow Leopard upgrade ...may wipe the content of the /System/Library/QuickTime folder during the upgrade process, and delete your MPEG-2 Playback Component installed in that folder. To use MPEG-2 files with MPEG Streamclip you have to reinstall the MPEG-2 component or restore it from a backup copy.

If you obtained the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the installation of Final Cut Studio, then you can reinstall it again from the Final Cut Studio DVD. Insert the DVD and use the Finder's Go menu > Go To Folder... command to get to the /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/ folder inside the DVD. Locate the QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg or the QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg installer: double-click it to reinstall the MPEG-2 component.
