Would someone kindly take the trouble to explain to a moron currently working his way to halfwit status the easiest way to get a video cd (mpeg1) onto vhs tape.
Thanks in advance.

Do you need specifics? In concept there are basically two ways:

Assumption: your mpeg1 CD is an original or it's a self-created and *closed* CD (so that a normal CD-ROM can read it - I won't mention Mode 1 or Mode 2/XA )

1. You have a VCD player or compatible unit. With this you'd pipe the output to the recording VCR. (assuming the CD is in a format the VCD-Player can read)

2. You have a PC + CD-ROM/DVD.
Well, you'll also need some way of outputting that to VHS - normally composite leads or RF type cable. That means that your hardware must support this, or it aint never gonna happen!

For the record, I use the Mystique/Rainbow Runner (old now, I know) and am more than happy with the results.

Your problem is outputing the mpeg stream from the pc to the vcr.

I have a creative encore dvd. As you may know it uses the dx2 mpeg player card. this card has the required video and audio outputs.

In my case I create a video cd, then play it back in the dvd drive, the mpeg card connects to the vcr through the video out.

You do not need to go all out and get a full dvd system, just buy a hardware mpeg decoder, most have a video out on them (check with retailer first). You could probably get one for 50 quid or so (maybe less, it's been a while since I looked).
