Excuse me for being particularily stupid here but I've got a Marvel G200 and it works very well. I bought a copy of Media Studio Pro 5, upgraded it to 5.2. Now in the mag and for that matter on ulead's web site 5.2 offers timeline based playback avoiding the 2gig problem.
Errrr How ? The only way I can see to playback to tape is to save the file as an AVI and then the MS Media player takes over. What am I missing here , can Media Player suddenly play files bigger than 2g ? I suspect not and I'm being really stoopid. Anyone care to enlighten me ?
Cheers
Pete
Most of the over 2 gig solutions that still need to be standard Microsoft and Apple AV support really only string to gether multiple files seamlessly. This limitation is soon to go away, with Products like SpeedRazor that have their own file formats the limit is not there. I've seen a few mods recommended on this boad that seem to get around the limit but I have not been able to try them out.
SO what you really get is a clever way to creat a tape that is produced from multiples of 2 gig files.

Pete, in theory, to output way over 2GB limit, just preview whilst output is connected to VCR; the on-screen disply in the preview window will then go out to tape.
As long as all video settings etc are AOK and rendering is finished. This avoids 'creating' a file [ie this IS playing out from timeline, which is really a number of pointers to all the files making up the movie; each file being under 2GB]
I say 'in theory' cos I hit a lip-sync brick wall after about 2mins - lip sync with my combination of Marvel and MSP goes after this time. or almost instantly if I insert a title etc. My suspicion is I'm not rendering correctly.. but I do not know how to 'force' a render.

LesP,
I'm pretty sure you've got something setup wrongly as I've had lipsync stay on 20mins or so of video (admittedly in only 3 avi files), but with some weird transitions between them using overlays.
included title clips as well, and audio being split from the avi.
I'm using a SB Live and a Marvel G200.
See you earlier,
Steven
I've also had problems in maintaining lip sync on a couple of 2 gig avi files on the timeline after about 2 minutes. I use Uleads 5.2 with the rainbow runner and I've always assumed it to be a fault of the RR board in being able to decompress fast enough on the fly. I'd love to be proved wrong on this though because the limit is a real pain.

So thats how it's done. I'll try some long edits at the weekend to see how the lip sync problems pans out here.
