Gents, I've got an Olympus C3030Z camera that talks to my old Win98PC using Olympus' software, but it won't install on my new XP Home machine (it doesn't have the correct "signature"). Does anyone know of a way to get this software installed and working in XP, or is there a cheap USB card reader that'll work in XP? I'm not despaerate for this because, as soon as I can get theses two machines networked together life'll get easier, but I'd be a lot happier with two ways into the system should the old PC break.

P.S., I've just found XP drivers on Olympus' site, so I'm ok for now, but I'd still be interested in a USB card reader anyway.

Alan,

I've got on Oly 3040 which I use with Windows 98SE/USB (don't use Camedia)with no problems at all, but am getting close to deciding to upgrade to XP.

Are you saying there is a problem with the USB driver ? (or have to load new XP software ?)

Yep, the Olympus software that came with my camera won't run on XP because it (XP) can't find the right "signature". I've had the camera for nearly 2 years, running very happily on a 98 machine, but I'm moving on to a much faster P4 with XP. I've been on the Olympus web site and found several bits of XP stuff, which I've now got safely on floppies and will try tonight.

I've found so far:

MAFP-E: XP software for Flash Path (I've got one so I'll try it)

CM251_Update: and updater for Camedia Master from 2.5 to 2.5.1, can't remember whether I use this or not.

c-30w95e1 and e2: 2 disc set for Camedia Utility v3.0.

I'll have a poke about over the weekend and see what happens, but I'd still be interested in a USB card reader for XP.

Paul, I've contacted Olympus by email, and got an invitation to talk to their Freephone Digital Helpline, 00800 6710 8300. A German sounding chap told me that Camedia Master 2.0 (the software that came with the camera) will work in XP. I tried it some days ago and it wouldn't install ("can't find XP signature" error message). He told me to click on the "ignore this error" button and it should all work. I'm away from home until Monday (working) so I can't confirm it yet.

I installed the FlashPath XP software and that works, so I've now got a way to do it, but I still like using the proper connecting software. The other XP software on the Olympus site seems not related to this problem.

I think the software for the 3040 is a little different, in that it makes the camera look like another drive on the PC, is that right? If so, then I've no idea whther that will work, but it has to be worth a try.

Right, I tried it last night and it all works. I can connect the camera and interrogate it as on Win98. So I guess the 3040 software'll work as well. You should be ok.

So I don't need a USB card reader now.

I to have the 3030Z and XP.
I've had no problems downloading, but for informaion, here's the releant part of a document I found on the Olympus USA site

DOCUMENT NUMBER 8139

WINDOWS XP - PRODUCT COMPATIBILITY

Windows XP compatibility with Olympus digital products is supplied below by model. This information will be updated as additional testing is completed.

Digital Cameras

(*1) Standard USB cameras require a device driver to be installed before the camera can be recognized by Windows. Camedia Master is required to download pictures to the computer. The Windows 2000 USB driver must be installed. Driver is located on the supplied Camedia Master CD or can be downloaded at http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/Win2000.exe.

(*2) Windows XP with Camedia Master 2.0 (included with the camera) can be used to download and edit image files. We recommend downloading images using the “Camera > Download All Images” function in the top tool bar. If you drag and drop image files between folders you may experience minor incompatibilities.

(*3) Drag and Drop of image files with Windows XP is supported with Camedia Master 2.51. Camedia Master 2.5 can be purchased directly from the Olympus Emporium at http://emporium.olympusamerica.com/innards/emp.asp?category=1&sub_category=12. A Camedia Master update patch (CM251 Update.exe) is used to update Camedia Master 2.5 (which must be preinstalled before running update patch). This file can be downloaded at http://www.olympusamerica.com/files/CM251_Update.exe.

Hope this is useful
