My over-worked and elderly (7 years old) Pana DMR-EX89 HDD/DVD recorder has just developed sound distortion when using the AV inputs for copying old camcorder footage. The distortion appears to be present when using either AV1 or AV2, but not when recording off-air. I cannot use AV3 for the following reasons:
A couple of years ago I reported the failure of the composite input on AV3 although the s-video input was OK at that time. The s-video input has now failed too, so only the audio inputs work on AV3, and the sound is as bad as it is on AV1 & AV2.
I have not tried the DV input (yet)., but I will do
Does anyone have any idea what the fault is (faults are)?. Could it be a dreaded swollen electrolytic cap for instance? I haven't yet plucked up the courage to take the top off for a look inside.
Is it likely to be an economically viable repair, or should I use it as a door stop and buy something else?
Your ideas gratefully received.
is the audio distorted if you connect the camera directly to tv ?
Thanks for the pointer, Gary. I have now tried the TV inputs as well as the recorder inputs, and it is now looking like a sound fault on the TV set. However, I still have blown-up video inputs, both comp and s-video, on AV3.
However, I have got round the problem of the video inputs by buying another recorder today from an ebay seller.
