Hi I want to install win xp onto a 300gb HD. I have something already on the HD But I don't need to Keep it.
So, I want to format the HD (taking off what I already have on) install XP and partition it as well.
Advice please. Can I install OS first and then partition the HD or partition HD during install OS.
Thanks in advance.
tony
probably easier to format and partition first and then install OS, that's the way I would do it.
You can partition afterwards but will need a third party program,
Ive got it to the stage that its asking what size for new partition, I have 286173 Mb whats this in GB??
How much do I enter. I would give the OS something like 30 gb for programs etc. but not sure.
286Gb
100Gb for main partition ...... that way it won't need repartitioned if you change to vista later.
Gary. Ive set it for the 100gb (102400 MB)
Z Cheema. you said "but will need a third party program,"
So there no problem doing it after the OS is installed but I would need to buy partition magic or something like that.
I see that within Disk management it allows you to partition a HD. Is it ok to partition this way or is it best to get Partition Magic.
that's really for partitioning the remainder of the HDD, not repartitioning an existing partition.
Oh Right, So its ok for me to go ahead and partition the remainder HD with this method.
sure. I usually partition the system drive via DOS / setup, then only get on to the latter partitions later.
:)
1000,000 Bytes = 1Mb
1000Mb = 1Gb
1000Gb = 1Tb
( ("one million bytes") is actually 1,048,576 (decimal) bytes)
"286173 Mb whats this in GB??"
move the decimal point to the left by 3 spaces to get the answer in Gb
Remember you never get the full size that is on the Disk, so with my 500Gb I only actually get 465Gb
right faddam thanks, "DOS" thats another pile of questions but thats for another day:)
Thanks all
