Hi
What are the copyright issues around tutorials supplied with Computer Video mag. Back in the day there was alot of useful tutorials that my students found very useful.
Would it be unwise to post the PDF files on our intranet site for students to access?
They would only be available within our instituion and we would not generate any monies from them.
Thanks
Tilski
Bob C could supply the full answer, but I suspect you're perfectly safe to use them. But, make sure that there's a label somewhere saying where you got them from. I can't see Bob or anyone else worrying much about it though.
From what I remember the bottom of each page was stamped with Computer Video January 2005 or what ever date the month happen to be.
But never the less we will definately reference the source material.

I was given permission to use them
I have most , if not all , of the pdfs available.
only ones missing were from last issue of magazine , because they never made it to pdf format.
pm me if you are looking for any particular articles
Thanks I'll start sorting through them all.

Tilski, you might find the your college is entitled to photocopy 20 of these PDf for internal use. Depends on the copyright agreement with the college and publishers.
You post does raise an interesting question as Computer Video is not defunct and I believe so is the company that produced it. If the mag. was not bought over who owns the copyright? Can't say it would be the original author as they would pass this over to the mag's producer.
It's the same with music. There must be 100's or 1000's of pieces of music where the owner has maybe died before the regulatory 70 years has passed.

I thought it all belonged to Future Publishing now????
It's not that we want to photocopy it really it's more the fact that we want to stick it on a server and let students access it as an internal web document.
Tilski.
All ( most ) of the pdf's were on the dvd's bought with final magazines.
Do any of the disks say the material is not useable for training purposes ?
If not , and only available to students within your building/college/Uni ......then you are doing nothing different to having copies in the library
the complete feb 2003 magazine is still on the website for download
