Photo slideshows

I've been offering growing up and honeymoon slide shows ever since starting in this game. But more and more they are getting to be the biggest PITA than anything else. Partly my fault, as I keep trying to find ever more ways to make them a bit different (and stop my brain from dying of boredom), and partly the clients who despite many reminders still send me pics that aren't numbered in sequence (how do I know who is who at what age?????) Or REALLY badly scanned, or not enough, or too many.......you get the picture. Anyone else still offering this? I'm trying to get away from it by offering a 'coming soon' trailer instead(which I enjoy a LOT more)....but most are still choosing the slideshow. :(

just my own personal opinion but i'd rather not have the fuss + chasing up .... i certainly used to do that in the 1st year of business, but i found it a 'mare with just 10 or so photos alone (for all the reasons you've listed)

remember, work should be enjoyable...to some degree ;) so perhaps don't do stuff that causes you grief.

on the flip side, i love doing the ol' highlights clips, and never dread doing them. so i hope your 'coming soon' trailers can soon completely replace your dreaded slideshows!

Totally agree with Richard. We used to do them but found that it kind of dated our weddings!...It just reminded me of the old fashioned eighties vhs 3 hour epics with photos in champagne glasses and spinning cubes!

Not sure why I feel like this, but maybe it's coming from an Italian background!:)

I feel the same with Guest messages, I'm getting rid of them too as I hate doing them but thought it would be good when I started. Don't know why as I like to work in the background without notice.

A good tip a photographer said was don't dump it, double or triple the price. most won't go for it but if they do you at least get well paid

Guest messages JP - god as you know I ditest them with a vengeance- i acctually tell couples straight out that we don't do them- nothing worse than saying to guests "say something to camera for the bride and groom" when you have been discreet all day.

 People don't do them anymore???? :D

Yep, made up my mind to dump 'em from next booking. (Just took a booking today that actually specified it :( ) Disagree with guest messages though. Do it right, and you can get some great ones. We had 2 absolute crackers at last Monday's wedding. One singing, the other singing and dancing! Excellent. Can sometimes be the highlight of the day for me, as you get a chance to interact with the guests after being in the background the whole day. :) A good chance to pass out a few business cards too. ;)

I disagree about guest messages as well!

We never force anyone to give guest messages. It is at their discretion. There is a way to do it and admittedly not all the content can be called usable! but you can get some real gems!

A little direction when it comes to guest messages does not hurt also!!

Cheers.

Glad to hear you are scrapping the photo slide shows Arthur...you will not regret it!:)

Arthur,

If you want to do very quick but very good quality slide shows, have you looked at ProShow Gold? photodex.com. Here's a quicky I did on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/RetepRekrap?blend=1&ob=5

Just load the photos onto the timeline, put the music below, select a template, press GO and it does it all for you. Output to various options, DVD etc and then load file into your authoring prog.

Thanks PP, yes I've tried all the flavours of Proshow. For me the templates look either bland or cheesy - just my 2p worth.

If I get an 'unusable' clip John, I include it separate from the main film on a secret button that only the couple know about. :D I should also say, some are very emotional. Grandparents etc aren't there for ever unfortunately. A good mix of fun and emotion is surely what a wedding film is all about?
