I am about to buy a new PC for DTV. A recent magazine review said that for speed an AMD Athlon CPU was the fastest. It also warned against buying a Pentium III processor as Intel is about to release its successor. Having bought a P166 MMX (my present PC)shortly before Pentium II was released I do not want to limit my future processor upgrade path in the same way again.

Is anyone out there using an AMD processor? I thought software such as Premiere was optimised for the Intel CPUs. What about games? (sorry if that word has offended anyone) how do games fare with the AMD CPU?

I can't offer direct experience of the Athlon, but the K6-2 and K6-3 work very successfully for video editing. I'll be buying an Athlon on my next upgrade.
