Looks like I can say goodbye to my Premier 6.5

I'm only doing family videos and such now and as a replacement for the 6.5 I'm thinking about Studio Ultimate 16.

Is anyone using Studio Ultimate 16.

Would anyone care to comment on it.

Cheers.

Hi Fergie

I haven't used Studio for years and no doubt it has improved.
Have you considered Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013?  I have been using various Magix versions for quite a few years now and feel it is a good package for home use, although I did use it as the preferred software in my high school media studies classes as well. Did most of what we and I wanted.
I am using it on a i7 3.2 Ghz  64 bit  16 GB Ram and it works so smoothly. Programme is installed on a 128GB SSD for C drive with video saved to a 1 TB D drive.system and Magix just hums along nicely.

Looks interesting Mediaed.

Can it work, and mix, both analog and DV footage.
Will it maintain the aspect ratio of 4x3 analog video in a widescreen project.

Cheers.

Hi Fergie

A few months back I made a video on Magix combining analogue footage from the 2004 Transit of Venus which I had filmed at near Preston UK with  DV WS footage from the 2012 Transit shot (Panasonic Lumix GH2) at Tolaga Bay in New Zealand. Both retained their original aspect ratios. The analogue was the first part followed by the DV material, so I didn't go backwards and forwards between individual shots rather the two sections butted onto each other on the time line and came out in the finished form retaining their aspect ration. Hope this makes sense.

Hope this helps.

Matthew.
I'm told that 6.5 will not run with anything newer thaan XP and I am having a new computer built that will be running Vista or 8.1.
Plus..the 6.5 refuses to work with the DV 500 capture card.

Thanks for the info. It seems like a good recomendation for Magix over Studio 16.

Cheers.

Apologies, I assumed you were talking about premier CS6.5 .  Ignore me, I'll get back in my box!

I agree with Barry though, steer clear of Vista, but consider windows 7, over 8.1

Hi Tony.
I had a look on Amazon and they are practicaly giving them away as they are so cheap.
Great, I though and then I read the customers reviews.
They say that it's not what it's hyped up to be and is in reality a very basic editing program suited to beginners.

Back to Studio 16 methinks.

Cheers.

Hello Fergie

I do not think that my basic price was quite that expensive and I did have to purchase from the company being outside of UK/Europe.
I bought the retail package so had to pay almost as much again for the registered mail delivery.  I do think though that as a regisitered user of a previous versionI was taking up a special  offer when the new(current)  version came out. I had also just got my new desktop PC (i7 64 bit  lots of Ram) and wanted to have the latest version on it. I have v17 Pro on my laptop.

With a previous edition I just bought the download and then in the mail I got a back up DVD from them - that wan't expected.

There are three price levels in the current 2013 version and the cheaper pair lack some of the features in the Premium package. Can't remember which ones though.

Hi Fergie,

If you are still to purchase your new software, I have noticed that Magix are releasing now the Magix Movie Edit Pro 2014 Premium edition. Yep they seem to bring a new version out each year. This one adds 4K ability which my be of interest to you.

I have been reading about it on the USA web site
so the pricing is in American dollars.

Don't believe all of the Amazon comments there are plenty of happy users around. Some folk don't like the interface design as it isn't what they have been used to  with other brands and to some looks a bit drab and old fashioned I suppose. However, I find it works fine for me and i used it on the edit  PC's  in my high school Media Studies classes over ten years.

You can have a free 30 day download to actually try it out for yourself. You can do this from the link given above or from the German site.
