An excellent image from the VCR appears on the PC screen. All connections and settings (minus one perhaps) should therefore be OK.
As soon as a capture is attempted the image breaks up and the resultant *.avi file is rubbish.
Capture from the VCR using the VHS cassette adapter has many advantages.

This will, I think, do the trick for you unless, of course, you are using old, slow hard disks.
Check your hard disk performance using the Matrox HD Benchmark program that will have been installed when you set up the RR - go Start> Programs>Matrox Rainbow Runner > and Voila!!
If you have modern, fast hard disks but they are running slow, the message over in FAQs which is three before the RR Runner one, called "Speeding up hard disks", may also be of some considerable use.
