Hi, not put anything up for review for a while so thought i would post a recent wedding.
this is the highlights of the day video.
comments welcome please
Hi Perproductions.
Please take this as helpful and constructive advise based on what I believe can be improved.
Firstly it is much better than the previous work I have seen from you!
I personally thought the shot of the bride at around 13 seconds was too diffused and blurry.
The shots of bridal party arriving in the car at around 40 seconds was followed by three white transitions where you stayed static with the camera. It would have been better to move position to a different angle for each individual shot.
Nice shot revealing the bride and father from the carriage at around 1.07.
At 1.27 you drop the camera and dissolve into a white transition. It may seem trivial but this needs to be removed if you want to improve your editing skills.
There was a talking shot with no vocals. Better not to use or add more vocals to your sample.
I personally thought there was too much vignetting, slow motion and dissolves used. Ask yourself why you used the dissolves and what purpose it served. Did it enhance your edit in any way! Same with slo mo, b+w!
I thought you cuts were better and more on time with the beat of the track.
Some nice shots of the table decor!
A good effort, keep up the good work. Always be critical on yourself and if you see something is not quite right it most likely means others will notice!
Thx for sharing.
Cheers,:)
Flame.
yes thanks for the comments.
the dissolves i thought matched the pace of the song, but i take on your opinion.
Totally agree with the shot a 1.27. my fault for not seeing that.
that shot with no vocals, if you were refering to the one at 1.28, was actually been signed, as the bride was an interpreter. so there was no vocals. it was a reading the girl signed for her.
apart from that, really appreciate the comments. im glas you see some improvement from past efforts. which of course is my aim!!
As a point of interest, was that the village in Bury?
No. Was in north shields. Newcastle.
I enjoyed watching this. I looked at some of your earlier clips on Vimeo and (trying not to sound patronising here...) this definitely has taken you forward imho.
I like the framing, camera movement and dutch tilts. Some variation of camera height might add further to the interest?
Not sure about the fades between what would otherwise be jump cuts, i.e. at 0:50 exiting car, 1.35 vows, 2:20 group photos and 3.38 speeches - it just doesn't work for me. At 0:50 you might have put the ring shot between the car shots for example? At 1.35 I would simply have omitted the first of the two clips of bride and groom.
Love the confetti shot.
Lastly - it might have finished more dramatically if you had cut the start of the last clip (the kiss) to the last note, so that they fade away simultaneously?
Thanks for sharing :)

Massive improvement Per! Really liked it (but getting tired of that fippin' song - seems to be in all of my edits this year :( ) A few wobbles, and I thought the repeat shots of hand to face for the signing jarred a bit. Liked the camera movement. Something I'm trying to get more of into my own stuff. Maybe I'm not brave enough. :o
thanks for the comments. i have to say i am agreeing with them. it really helps getting someone else commenting on my work. you see things i just miss because i have seen it so many times.
Thanks.
Any more comments welcome
Ok - Just another honest 2ps worth, but I'll also try to add helpful suggestions to remedy the sting.
Not that I've listened to the music, I never do at 1st watching, but why does the music take priority over the video?
If you had the music turned down when building this edit until the basics were checked, you would have realised the continuity errors and could have then tweaked the clips to the beat.
It seems, like many do, the music track lulled you into 'wow' This is good.
Nice opening -Then a wobbly invitation shot.
As described above, the jump cuts are glaringly poor and I bailed out long before it finished.
0-25 Groom & group comes round corner - 'jump to' groom having photo taken -
Bridesmaids car arrives and an endless stream of dissolves between them all exiting.
Horse and cart arriving, 'jump to' out they are!
What is missing from all of the above shots?
Somebody must have been watching all these arrivals and a simple shot of those scenes cut between the scenes above would have made the story a hellova lot more watchable.
With all respect, your profile shows a 2:1 in TV production.
Shouldn't you be teaching us? :)
thanks for watching. again i welcome all comments. i am still learning.
regards the degree....whats that worth to be honest?? 3 years, teaching myself (lack of support at uni), 12k of debt....
thanks for the comments,
A shame about the Uni - But it at least pointed the way and I sincerely hope you make a success of the wedding video business.
We're all here to learn. The day we stop . . . .
I'm sure your clients love this video, but many watch and just listen too.
I hope these mistakes are now obvious and now you're aware of how to apply more polish, your work and future improves.

I know that feeling mate ditto :)
I have a daughter in exactly the same boat. Thousands of pounds in debt, and currently hoping to land a new job as.....a cleaner. If I could line Blair & Co up against a wall, I'd quite happily shoot the effing lot of 'em!!!
Sorry. Rant over. Feel a bit better now though. :D
yes, i was always interested and had dabbled in the camera and editing before uni, so if anything it allowed me to use some kit and get some practice. but saying that the cameras were so crap and akward to book out i bought my own..
but i will keep on going, learning new skills. trying different projects.
I hear this time after time that the media uni's up here in the north lack people to train the next generation.
Personally I have been talking to sunderland for over four years and have offered my services as a lecturer on numerous occasion but have got nothing.
I have also done the same with northumbria and teeside and have applied for lecturing jobs that are advertised but to no avail.
I am currently unemployed and it just seems crazy that I am sat at home twiddling my thumbs when I could be out there supporting the next generation.
As for Northern film and media, what a chocolate fireguard they are and they seem to think that developing social networing sites is the way forward or still relying on the london centric broadcasters for commisions.
Sorry rant over!
well i went for 3 years on the tv production and proffesional practice degree. i could have done the course in 2 years because i was sat doing nothing for weeks on end.
i was using the pd150's and editing on macs running fcp. but the gear was well used and getting old. the studio was more like a museum....with the gallery been so close to the studio, and not been sound proof. so it was useless unles you all wispered!!
my tutors were all pros who still worked in the industry. but unfortunatly their work seemed to come first on some occasions....not us.
but the worst thing on the tv production course was the access to kit. as the center where all the kit was based and contained the edit suites, was also run as a business for other crews. the hassel to get a camera booked out, inc 4 sheets of paper, signatures from 2 tutors and a health and saftey statement, it was just stupid. so i used some of my loan to buy my fx1, and used that for 2 years of my course...
anyway my rant is over, maybe i was unlucky but i wouldnt do it again.
oh and no support whatsoever for jobs.
Thanks,
