Sad Story for Premiere 6.5 upgrade

I recieved Premiere 6.5 upgrade and removed the Dazzle software as directed by technical support. I loaded Premiere 6.5. No problem. I re-intstalled Fast Forward with the Service Pack. I downloaded the upgrade driver for Fast Forward for Premiere 6.5. I got an error message that said I would have to remove the previous upgrade. I did. Then I got the message, "There is currently the version 1.5(Build 0206_B) of the DV.x software installed on this system. Please remove this software before running this setup program again." I removed everything I could find that had anything to do with Dazzle or Fast Forward. When I attempted to re-install Fast Forward from scratch I got the same message about removing software. I have looked everywhere for anything that resembles Dazzle or Fast Forward to remove and I still get the same message. I don't know where but this software that it says I have is lurking somewhere and I don't know where it is. I am now in the position of having Premiere 6.5 without the use of Dazzle Fast Forward which makes Premiere 6.5 useless. Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FAST-Dazzle" registry key and try to install again. Just a guess. Your FAST-Forward settings will be lost, but they would anyway.

If you're not familiar with the registry, here's a step by step guide:
- run regedit.exe from the start menu
- expand the "My Computer" branch
- expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
- expand the "Software" branch
- click on "FAST-Dazzle"
- hit the del key and answer "Yes"
- close regedit
- run setup.exe

THONDERSON - I appreciate your attempt to help but my problem still exists that won't let me use the setup for FF

There are a lot of horror stories about 6.5 on the Premiere/Windows discussion board. I was actually going to order the upgrade today but I decided to hold off until I hear more. I actually have things running fairly well right now and don't want to muck it up. Please keep us informed of your progress and good luck.

ednachman,

I just got 6.5 but haven't tried an install yet. I'm curious about one thing, though. You say:
"I re-intstalled Fast Forward with the Service Pack."

Is this the 1.5 ver of FF? Why would you install this first instead of just the 6.5-compatible version?

JAVID - I was attempting to do everything in the same order that led up to the driver upgrade for Premiere 6.5.

I haven't yet done extensive testing, but so far, installation has been hassle-free. I did the following:
1. Wrote down all the settings for both FF and AP6 to set up the new versions - however, all the relevant settings seem to have been preserved into the new versions.
2. Uninstalled the current FF version from the control panel (W2k).
3. Uninstalled AP6 from the control panel. Somewhere in the process, you have the option of just uninstalling the program, but not the settings.
4. Installed AP6.5 from the CD - when it wants a serial number, use the same SN as from your AP6 version (should be on the CD case).
5. Installed FF (1.75 263b).
6. Ran FF - had to rebuild the interface (i.e. - what modules you want showing) and loaded in a previous project with no problem.
7. Went through the various settings, but all appeared to be as I left them.
8. Went to the old plug-ins folder for AP6 and copied the TitleDeko plug-in files to the 6.5 plug-ins folder (so AP6.5 will recognize the old TDK titles). Also any other plug-ins should be copied from 6.0 to 6.5 if you want to continue to use them.

That's all the testing for now, but all runs and nothing blows up. Time for lunch :)

My install went OK.
I installed Premiere 6.5 (left 6.0 on the system for the time being).
I removed the older build of FF.
I installed the new build of FF.
Have not yet copied other plug-ins to P6.5, but so far it appears to work ok.

For some odd reason I can't use the setup for beta 1.75 to enable Premiere 6.5. Everything seems to be going allright and then the following message appears, "Place Installation Disk #7 into the floppy drive and press the OK button."

Below that it says, "Source Pathname:
C:\Dazzle Upgrade 1.75"
(My folder for the download)

I have sent a message to DAZZLE but was hoping that someone could solve my problem before DAZZLE gets around to answer my question. They still haven't answered my August 23 inquiry.

Hi all. Anyone have luck with "real-time rendering" using the dv.now.av card? I'd love to hear that it actually works. Thanks.

It looks like some of your setup files are missing or damaged. Check to see if you have the "setup.W07" file in your download directory (that's the file containing "Disk #7" of the installation). You should have "setup.*" files from .W02 up to .W13 plus the .EXE file (14 "disks" total).

If there's anything missing, download it from the Dazzle site. If you have all of them, you may still try to download .W07 again in case it got corrupted in transfer.

As for your other question about versions 1.6 versus 1.75: the 1.75 version is specifically for Premiere 6.5. I'm still using Premiere 6.02, so can't speak of personal experience, but I think you should be using the latest beta drivers to be safe.

I believe you meant a total of 13 files. Anyway, I have downloaded setup.wo7 many times and now get the message, "ERROR - Could not write file, your disk may be full."

I have 1.28GB left on my disk.

The program asked where I wanted to store my video and instead of "C"(default in setup) I chose "E" which has 57.1GB.

I am still waiting for DAZZLE to answer my question. They are very quick to E-Mail and inform me that they recieved my question and that it will be answered in the order it was recieved.

AFAICT, R/T works with AVI stuff captured in Premiere, but not DIF or AVI files captured with FastForward. Premiere still wants to build preview files with these types. And if you specify an AVI project in FF, it won't let you export to AP6.5 (I think this is only useable with ULead). You have to import the files into Premiere, and R/T still won't work.
I also found that the "gray screen" or gray blotchies" still exists with the latest FF version on a Sony, and still requires the registry fix to cure it.
And then too, the audio mixer still doesn't work in this FF release.
I wonder if Dazzle just changed the release number.

I installed both Premiere 6.5 and the new FF software. They work fine but can't interface each other: if I go in FF and verify the config it does not see Premiere...
It may be the same problem, anyone has a solution?

Yeah, probably because you've opened a project in FFwd using .avi file capture. Premiere wont see this. If you start a new project in FFwd using .dif file capture you'll see Premeiere come up as the link.

I tried, but it didn't work...
I started the full process again (uninstall all, install Premiere and then FF) but no changes... When I go in FF (properties menu on the export field) no programs are listed.
Is there a Registry Key to add to make Premiere 6.5 to be seen?
Thank You!
