Hello

I would like to create some scrolling text. Final cut pro does not have this feature and I am asking if anyone here can surggest any idea on how to create this effect.

1.Do i create the text in FCP and pieace togeather each bit of the text line.

2. Create the long line of text in photoshop, import it a pan along the image ( that is extreamly long).

3. Create the text line in cinema 4D and use a camera to pan along it.

any other suggestions?

You can do basic scrolling text in iMovie. I have also used Photoshop and panned along in Premiere which is very simple once youget your sizes correct. I haven't tried it in FCP, but I guess an image pan should be fairly straightforward.

2pop.com have a scrolling text effect. If you want I can email it to you.

You can also type in your text and then use the motion filter to animate it. Set a keyframe at the beginning and then move the text up beyond the top of the screen, create a second keyframe. Voila!

I am thinking of buying FCP, but am suprised to here that a £750 programme can't even do a simple little task like scrolling credits, even my £1000 Avio does this.

Scrolling credits in FCP are easy. Just make a long and tall picture in Photoshop, and scroll it up the screen in FCP.

No NLE has all the great text and titling options Photoshop has, and even the LE version will do this for you, or even a shareware paint package.

What FCP does do is edit well, quickly and powerfully. And it allows you to use other programs that are more suited to other tasks, like photoshop and after effects. Personally, I do my scrolly titles in AE....

Hi

Thanks all for the ideas.
s.hood where is that effect? i went to www.2pop.com and got some kind of movie website, not the one for final cut pro. If you can e-mail me it to then great. Is it a FX script plug-in?

What i want to create is a long line of text that will move across the screen not up the screen.

Louis, Don't be put of FCP by this. the program if very good, it's powerful and reliable. and i think it is the best DV editing software on the mac. even premier 6 does not sound like it's reliable yet with patches already being released. any way look what happened with premier 5, a, b and c.

If you want to do simple editing like the Avio then imovie 2 would be better.
FCP is not only and editing program but an effect package AE just not as powerful.

cj, create the text. Switch to the viewer and set it to image+wireframe. Drag the text off the the left. Click the keyframe button below the image. Drag the playhead to the end. Move the text all the way over to the right. Click the keyframe button. Drag to sequencer and render. Horizontal scrolling text.

2pop is pretty much all about FCP. The scripts are in the FX script library if I remember correctly.

Louis - FCP is a powerfull verstatile package. Think After Effects but not quite. Everything is animatible using paths. It has hardly ever crashed - I mean a "one-hand full of times" - so it is also stable. I have used it with DC30plus card & DV - same result. Premier 5.1c on the other hand is a complete dog. Premier 6 is loads better and has some great effects from After Effects, but my Fave is still FCP.
