A serious rival to the GoPro at last?

Mark has just posted about one Sony 4K camera - it's got a little brother with a very similar name now.

Be very interesting to see how it stacks up against the GoPro. At the very least, the GoPro does finally seem to have a serious rival.

I've tended to thing of GPS in cameras as being a gimmick for 99% of intended users - but this is exactly the sort of camera where it may give it a significant selling point over the GoPro.

I'm intrigued by the budget GoPro clones that are cropping up.

I bought one of these from Amazon last week:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CRXCJIY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It comes with a wealth of fittings and the 30M waterproof case with handlebar mounts, tripod mounts, dashboard mounts - all as standard.

I'm taking my students to a theme park tomorrow. If I'm allowed to wear ir on the big rollercoasters, I'll be in a position to comment on it very shortly. :)

GoPro et all will need to push 4K in order to compete with the no-brand clones though, as all of the online reviews suggest that the picture quality is rather good.

No cameras allowed on the rides. Boo!

I'll put the cheapo Faux Pro through its paces once my summer holiday starts proper.

They wouldn't let you take the tiny SJ1000 on the ride? I'm surprised they could even see it. I find it a very impressive camera indeed and mine runs as a very effective dash-cam in my car, automatically recording every journey I make.

Even better is the NoPro SJ4000 that I have. A slightly narrower fov than the SJ1k (so less barrel distortion), it's at least a stop more sensitive for the same ISO setting. This 'Don't be a Hero' arrived at my door for £55, a lot cheaper than the GoPro's viewfinder alone.
