not necessarily wedding-related so i thought i'd post it here too
what a day that was :)
I was laughing before even clicking on the forum! This is that FX trying to get the review forum kick started again methinks. :D But no! It is actually what it sez on the tin.
Good stuff Richard. About the right length. Nothing too static. Nice pace. Exactly right for the subject of this company's promo. Thumbs up! (Can't wait for the 'reshoot' though :D )
arthur - i used the word 'sexy' for that exact tongue-in-cheek reason :) well spotted!
cheers for the comments - glad you said it was about the right length. the customer wanted (at first) it to be 20-30 seconds, but i was insistent that it needed to be longer coz sooo many 'nice' shots to choose from :)
Nice piece (the video, I mean)! A couple of comments, though - speeded up footage of people always looks ridiculous to me. I always expect Benny Hill to appear! It's one of the current trends of video making that I find just too gimmicky and distracting.
I'm inclined to agree with your client about the length. You certainly had loads of nice shots to choose from but the sweeping camera movements started to get a bit repetitive towards the end and I didn't feel I was being shown anything new.
Minor points, though. Generally I thought it was very effective and appealing (not just because of the subject matter!) :)
hey stuart,
totally fine! love to hear opinions on it....
the timelapse thing - requested by the client to be honest, but yes, not entirely necessary... yeah, maybe next time someone should dress up as Benny Hill :)
and as for the length - u do have a point - it starts to repeat on the glide shots towards the end. as we all know though, you need to edit something, give it a rest for a few days, then watch it again with fresh eyes.... i'll prob think it's too long in a few days too!!
cheers, appreciated
Yes, nice and snappy!
Shows off your skills in video rather than what the course is about due to it's sheer speed, more of an ad for you I woud have thought..not too long at all from a togs point of view.
hey Red
very valid point, and i said all this to the customer too... but they insisted it should be quick, snappy editing with the intention of not giving too much away...i could see their point - they want people to get a flavour and then enquire about doing a course - rather than giving too much of the game away
the next clip i'm doing for them, they want even snappier and quicker!
I can understand that but, main point of my observation, we are looking to send several of our young people on courses like this and don't think it shows enough of the finished product from a photograhic point of view. Not how they do it, that would be commercial suicide, but perhaps a bit more of the results you can achieve. Maybe a montage of really good, varied, studio shots as a finale?
Not always of female models and with some whiz, bang editing of course :-)
