Non-pro videos could be shared on DC++, and other p2p:s, for free. With indexes on web-sites
it should be no problem finding them.Anyone tried this?

p2p is being used to distribute a film by Mike Jittlov. 'The wizard of speed and time'

System works fine.

how about a DVDoctor bit torrent tracker?

it could be used for large files (software updates etc, assuming permission was sought) and for sharing videos with minimal overhead on the server.

the idea is great , i still can't get my head round setting a tracker up.

needs a pc or rack unit devoted entirely to that job.

will see what i can find out about a reliable tracker system .................

yey! positive murmurs!

i agree, Gary. setting up a tracker does seem a little complicated... that said, lots of people have done it, so it can't be that hard...

no ..... but try getting someone to explain it all in plain english.

you need a standalone unit , only doing the tracker.

http://bnbt.depthstrike.com/doc/ is a starting point

There is one little problem though, just downloaded a virus - Tibick - something i never got from dc++!

Discovered on: July 26, 2004 , so no antivirus should have allowed it in.
a video file cannot be infected by this virus so it must have been an executable you downloaded.
if the hash was checked and you weren't the first downloader , then a bad file should have been nuked long before delivery, and bittorrent is no different from dc++ in the way it handles files , so you would have had the same problem if you had downloaded from dc++
i suggest you post a warning on the bittorrent site you downloaded the file from.

note on how it 'works'

Modifies the settings of various file-sharing applications, if present, to use the newly created folder as the default sharing folder. This applies to the following applications:

Kazaa
iMesh
Morpheus
wareo
eMule
DC++
