What a strange day it's been. Thankfully I got all my window cleaning done by lunchtime - except for one customer who had locked the back gate and asked me to call after 3:30 'cos that's when she picks her kiddy up from school and goes back home.
So I went around at 3:30, did the windows, got my money and cycled home. Then it chucked it down and it's been raining ever since!
I like it when it waits for me to get my work finished before it rains!
I've spent the rest of the day re-doing the ending to my film. Why can't it just take 2 minutes to add dialogue to 2 minutes worth of footage? Come on Alan Roberts, there must be a scientific answer to this - No wonder Dennis Norden (?) gets an abundance of out-takes to keep him in business!

When I was doing radio it worked out at about one hour of work ber minute broadcast. If it's better than that you're on to a winner.

Actually it was a magazine programme (hence the large work/broadcast ratio).
It was the religious programme on LBC radio in London which I did in the late '70's and early '80's. It was great fun and I learned a lot as well.

John, while you were there, did you know of anyone by the name of Iain Mann or John Brunning?
Iain used to work as News Editor for Radio City in Liverpool and John was a guitarist with Mungo Gerry (not on their first few songs though) until he became a Newsreader.
Also, were you ever into the offshore stations - Caroline, Radio London, Swinging Radio England, etc?

I`m having problems with this thread and OUAT, everytime I put a reply to post in, Explorer freezes, and I have to control, alt, delete to get out of it,any one else having any problems?
It is only with these two threads.

One minute per hour is damn good going. On a drama shoot I was at recently, they got 13 minutes of useable footage in 2 working days of 12 hours each. On another 6 day shoot, 14 hours overnight, they came back with about 20 minutes useable.
Editing is another matter though, last year it took me 400 working hours to complete an 18 minute piece. And that was only the time at the PC. Mind you, there was 3 hours of video footage and over 400 stills in it, and no voice-over.
There's no science in this, just bloody hard work.

Sorry, no, I didn't come across either Iain or John (though I did hear Mungo Jerry live at the Royal Albert Hall once). Though one of the people on my team, Dave Loyn, is now one of the BBC's top reporting team.

With these long threads it gets ~very~ slow and I often get the "timed out" message - even though I am on an ISDN line at work and NTL-Broadband at home with very fast download speeds. Even then I have to re-load the page to get my new message. It is only on these long pages though.

Yes, same hear. It takes ages for me too and sometimes it locks up. I guess it's our fault for going where no man has gone before!

Hi all, despite watching bits of the film three times a day, six days a week for 6 weeks - it was on while I worked at the Odeon many years ago - I still couldn't resist watching 'Diamonds' last night!
I remembered all the classic lines:
"I didn't know there was a pool down there!"
"I got a brudda."
"I'm Klaus Hergeshymer, from 'G' section, testing Radiation Shields."
"I'm Plenty" " Of course you are."
And did anyone notice when James tipped his car onto two wheels to get through the narrow gap at the end of the car chase? The ramp tipped the LEFT wheels up in the air but when he dropped down onto all four wheels it was the RIGHT side which was up in the air!!!
You won't hear from me much over the next three days. My brother in law is here at the moment - staying in our daughter's room. She's having to sleep on a spare mattress in our room and she goes to bed at 8:30 p.m. So the computer - which is in the bedroom - has to be switched off. How inconsiderate!!! As well as that, we're all going to Norwich for the next three days.
Of course, you realise what that means don't you?

Cor! Thank goodness for that!!! Imagine being wrong after watching it so many times!And yet I don't ever recall it being on anyone's 'blooper' type programme.
Here's another thing I've noticed but never had an answer to:
In the first of the two 'Mission Impossible' films, Emilio Estafez (?) plays a small part. He get's killed when the lift crushes (or electrocutes) him in the lift shaft. And yet his name - or the character he plays - does not appear anywhere in the credits. Anyone know why?

Q.2: could be the Alan Smithee effect. When a director of a film gets so pissed off with the producers interfering with the edit, he may wish to dissociate himself from the production. Then, either a new diretcor will finish it off, or he'll do it and not claim credit. "Alan Smithee" is the oft-used alias for such occasions. There may be other reasons as well, in "A Touch of Evil" (Orson Welles), one of the pivotal characters was played by Marlene Dietrich, who demanded that she be not credited. It was just that she wanted to do the part, for Welles, and was contracted by another company, so took no credit (and possibly no pay) for the part. But the film's a lot better for the air of mystery she brought. Could be he (Estevez) was playing the same game.

Not much happening since we went away then!
My little birdie died about an hour before we left on Friday morning. Poor little thing, I didn't really expect it to be alive when I woke up at about 6am. as he'd been quite restless the night before. In fact he'd hardly put any weight on for the whole of the week I'd been feeding him. I gave him a feed at 6.10am. and he made a few chirping noises at 6.20am. Then he just died in my hand.
It was quite sad, but I'd rather it happened that way than me keeping him alive and in pain.
It's amazing isn't it, we get to page 10 - which I see OUAT still hasn't managed to do. Then I disappear for four days, during which the the next seven postings following John's at the top of page 10 are all about Carol Vorderman - Who he/she might be and where's she from?
Well now, good job none of you are in the police force - you'd all have been fired by now.
As far as I know, only one person was able to come up with the answer (I'll tell you who later).

Each page contains exactly 40 postings. It doesn't matter whether they're long or short. So if you can count in 40's you'll know when the next page will begin.
Bear in mind though that the number listed on the 'topics list' page is the number of replies to the original topic.
So replies No. 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240, 280, 320, 360 & 400 would start on pages:
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11.

And I didn't get time to sample the local wares. The first evening I spent trying to dry my trousers and shoes using a hair drier (it worked, I wore them again next day when we shot indoors and it was sunny, bugger, it always works that way with me.)
Now if that'd been me I'd have had to stay wet all day - with the amount of hair I've got, a hair dryer is the last thing I'd think of packing!
Ah well, I'm off to Scotland on Tuesday - I only hope the weather will be fine for be - but as long as the local tipple is good...

So what's happening in Scotland for everyone to be heading that way? Is Charles having a Hogmanay rehearsal or something?
John, while you're there can you catch a Haggis for my wife please? They're very easy to come by apparantly. You see, they spend all day walking around the mountains and so the legs on one side of their body are shorter than on the other side.
All you have to do is wait till one walks toward you and go "Boo!!!" This is enough to frighten the timid little creature, which then turns around to run away.
This of course is impossible because its shorter legs don't reach the ground! And so it over-balances and rolls down to the bottom of the mountain, hitting its head on small rocks on the way down. By the time you find it, it'll probably be heavily concussed and quite easy to overpower!
Anyway, let me know if you catch one. The alternative is to buy one cheap at Tesco's, not many people eat them down here!

This isn't actually an 'Over 50's' page - it just started out as a 'tongue in cheek' suggestion for one. In fact, as Alan suggested in another thread, it's more like a 'Chatroom' than anything else. Except for the fact that all the info is retained instead of being lost when you finish chatting. And of course, as the thread is so long, it takes about two minutes before what you submit actually gets uploaded onto the page.
Unless you'd rather keep it to yourself, it would be nice to know your name. Most of the Members/Contributors have said what their name is somewhere in this thread - if it wasn't already part of their UserName.(you're not another Dave are you? )

You're right, there's not much activity going on around the forums today. Well, not on the 'Chatter' ones anyway.
I really like the 'Oh deary me...' thread. I love anything nostalgic and didn't realise how easy it is to find info on the web. For instance I asked about a kids puppet programme I used to watch with a guy called 'Weatherspoon' in it. Someone came back with the name of the show and a website for it!!!

Yep, I'm here, back from a super weekend off. We took my new car to Northants just for the hell of it, ended up at Barnsdale, Geoff Hamilton's TV gardens. Wonderful, but very hot and somewhat overshadowed by an air show at Cottesmore. And I was most taken by how quiet and pretty the villages are.

hi all, yes its hot down here in devon as well,been away a lot with the cars so hope to have some shorter working days this wk and see the little ones,I had lovely break the other night.I came back with the artic,shoved the rig in the work shops and de hithched the trailer,and off home,I had to leave with the tractor unit at 7 for a 2 hour drive and park up for 6 hours,so seing how warm and nice it was I grabed me fishing rods fired down to my local spot had a few hours fishing,caught a couple of skate,and slept during my 6 hour park up,very nice.see you all in the wk,pete.

I`ve had a lovely week-end, some friends from Worthing came to visit us, met them in Italy a few years ago, got friendly because we both had camcorders, and have been friends ever since.
It`s a wonderful world this video thing.
We make friends on holiday that we see, and also make friends on forums such as this which we don`t see.
Well I will have to sign off, I`m going out to do some filming with the video club, see you all later.
