Sound-bar Audio

I am having a few problems with sound-bar audio cutting out, when a DVD starts to play a chapter.

The setup is, Samsung LED40 F5500 TV. A Sharp HT-SB250 Sound-bar and a Panasonic DMP BD79 DVD.

The sound-bar will turn off if there is no audio for about 20 mins. But it`s turning off after about 1second of silence when a DVD plays. The DVD player only has HDMI out, and the TV has three HDMI in. HDMI 1 for a satellite, HDMI 2,  and HDMI 3 DVI. I have changed from HDMI 2 to 3 which has made a slight difference to some DVD`s, but not solved the problem.

The TV e-manual is of little help, saying that an ARC input has the ability to control an external device, but this TV does not have one... CEC is also mentioned, but I don`t have that either.

The next move would be to try the TV optical out via a converter, and feed L/R audio to the sound-bar. At the moment, it`s fed from the headphone out. Perhaps someone can tell me if this will work please.

Re: Sound-bar Audio
I use analogue line in to the soundbar in my den.

Analogue is from the RCA/phono audio outputs on the TV.

My Samsung TV does have optical IN but not OUT. Hence I use analogue LR. Are you certain yours has optical OUT?

Basically anything shown on the TV (Wii/old Xbox/PVR/HDDVD player) gets fed to the soundbar.

It's an old TV bought from a forum member here (no Freeview).

There are optical inputs on the soundbar - I have tried them with ATV and PS3 - slightly nicer audio but those gadgets don't live in my den & analogue is good enough - no drop out noticed.

Unfortunately no phono out on this TV, only input.

Only optical out, or the headphone 3.5mm socket. The TV is a fairly new one, and an insurance replacement for a three month old Toshiba that was uneconomic to repair. They didn`t do that years ago, they were mendable!

Gavin.
Thanks for your input, but I am sure I have solved the problem. Feeling certain the DVD player was at fault, I had another run through the setup menus and discovered HDMI out screen resolution was set to auto. Changing this to 1080 was the answer.

Re: Sound-bar Audio

Sadly that did not solve the problem completely. Some DVD`s still switch the sound bar off at chapter points, and some DVD`s start to play then switch it off.

Time for a service call.....
