I have several DVD iso files to convert to MP4, which will be played from a memory stick.
I am using Daemon Tools Lite, VidCoder and DVD Decrypter. Neither will always split at chapter points, so sometimes a VOB will contain a chapter, and sometimes not.
Vidcoder sometimes shows the number of chapters, but outputs the DVD as one file. Dcrypter will show the chapters but sometimes outputs one VOB – as it did with a 550meg file with several chapters, which it did not separate.
DVD Fab is very expensive, but works. Wondershare Ultimate less expensive, but does more than I want. So with streaming media the “next big thing” does anyone know of a better option please?
Many thanks.
Handbrake any good to you?
Or you might consider converting the entire DVD to mp4 then manually trimming the mp4 into individual chapters using mpeg streamclip.
All free software.
Hi Duncan.
Thanks for your reply.
Vidcoder uses Handbrake, so would there be any point using Handbrake on it`s own?
I can look for chapters loading the Mp4 into Vegas. It looks like I am stuck with what I have, or buy something.
It'll take 10 minute to install Handbrake and test it. So why not just try.
BTW Handbrake lets you choose which chapters to encode, so technically it should do what you need all on it's own.
MPEG SC will edit an mp4 natively with no transcoding. Very quick and easy.
Both are free and should do what you need, so I don't think you are 'stuck' at all.
I downloaded Handbrake 64bit. It`s slower than Vidcoder which uses an earlier version of Handbrake. Both still only output one MP4 file.
But DVD Decrypter will split each VOB to a chapter. There are seven in all, and I think this is a particularly difficult DVD, but I havn`t worked out why yet. The extra time involved producing an MP4 from the VOB is reasonably quick, so with either program I can get the job done.
Thanks for your time and suggestions, i`ll plod on.....
