I use when possible visual/audio cues - drums are great, but for the majority of the time, the audio waveform is the key - there's usually something that you can 'see' - as long as both cameras recorded audio. It even works if one camera has poorer audio quality that is not being used.

It's a bit late but a small flash gun is handy.

You can sync at any point in FCS,just find a point and pull the timeline out after.

I cocked up the other day and managed to forget to rig mics on my two extra cameras while doing a 60 min live event. It took a little longer but I managed to find a lighting cue (actually a power point slide that flashed up) and used that

Another way to sync would be to look for a flash or some other distinctive visual cue. However, as Paul says, audio waveform is likely to be the most accurate. D

Haven't used FCP but in all other NLEs you would capture the footage in one continuos chunk from each camera (provided they were running continuosly).

Stack the cameras tracks up in layers on the timeline with the wave forms visible - align the wave forms visually then check for an echo. No echo = in-sync.

Switch off the audio track you don't need and trim/DVE away as required.

in FCP you take a clip and mark a point either IN or OUT in the viewer,as you would any normal clip, but only mark one end.

do the same for the others.

highlight the clips that you want and select "make multi clip " from the "modify" section
It will ask if you want to sync by timecode / in / or out

As I said,if the easy point is in the middle, once you have the multiclip working, you can pull the clip out to before/after the point that you used for sync

I suspect that FCE doesn't have multi-clip, but Gavin's method will certainly work. Just make sure you set the tracks to highest magnification and make sure track linking is on. I also recommend switching OFF snapping, so you can just slide the tracks about without any annoying sticking!

Once you have it nearly in sync, use Option (alt) + left or right to nudge the tracks one frame at a time until perfect sync is obtained.

I know it's very old school but where possible we've taken to using a clapperboard about 5 minutes before the show kicks off and then not switching off any cameras until the end of the show,
John
as long as you have a brass neck enough to stand on stage and use a clapperboard!

You could try Pluraleyes - http://www.singularsoftware.com/pluraleyes.html
I recently dropped in 3 cameras and 8 audio tracks - 5 minutes later all synced no problems.
