Not exactly a new idea though; I thought we'd all been doing that forever, but generally run out of range with it.

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.

I have used that one in the past. It's fairly easy with a little camera and lightweight photographic tripods, but considerably more difficult with a 'fully-loaded' broadcast camera and a professional tripod with a ground level spreader - or any spreader attached for that matter. :(

I'm surprised it's an old trick cause I hadn't seen it posted anywhere before.
I can understand the difficulties with a floor spreader, but a mid level one should be fine.

Certainly, I was routinely doing it with an S-VHS-C camcorder at least 16 years ago, it seemed so obvious. I'm surprised that few know of it.

It's likely you were the 1st Alan and maybe you and others took for granted the obvious nature of the shot.
I hadn't ever thought of trying it and there's a whole raft of new videomakers picking up ideas and techniques old and new.

I certainly didn't invent it, it was common knowledge amongst professionals, but rarely used because of the risks of dropping expensive kit. I did it because the Panasonic S7 didn't cost much (actually it cost me loads, but that was before digital recording was affordable).

It's one technique I've not seen before but will certainly be giving it a try.

Us young uns still have a lot to learn Alan.

Ive been practicing this type of shot with the 561b monopod but i never thought of trying to do it with a tripod but I can see how it would give better results
